  1. I love it when they claim someone I have never heard of and correspondingly release someone I had no idea was in the organization.

  2. Why do you act as if you are so ignorant of the entire Elko situation that you can't even be fair and give Getz a little credit that some people he hired and a machine he bought helped a player ? This is the whole goal of upgrading R and D andsking new hires. You got busted because you know what you originally wrote was so stupid you changed it now outright deny any knowledge of things Elko said in an interview about why he believes he's doing better this year.

  3. Probably be a sell out now today.

  4. Nah...many/most high end prospects will encounter significant failure at some point. He has to learn to adjust, make changes and fight his way out of it.

  5. Hey man, we got a fan with connections now.

  6. For the record, I have no problem at all with Getz getting some credit here. It is consistent with his also getting blame for all of the failures that happened at the same time. I am not quite sure why we played some of the other clowns on the roster instead of Elko, but hopefully he does something positive. There is literally no downside. We lose nothing if he sucks, because that is what we already have.

  7. Lol I saw that. You were in such a hurry to argue with Eddy and condemn Getz for having nothing to do with Elko that you told Eddy 'Wrong" then quickly edited your post to remove "Wrong" and add I guess...at the end. I thinking to myself, wait, Getz was promoted to Asst.GM in 21 and Elko was drafted in 22 and hired the coaches recently who worked with him and gave him a plan to get better and Getz bought the Trajekt machine which Elko said was a part of what he used to improve this year that Getz actually has played a significant role in his drafting and development . I wasn't really pleased it took as long as it did to call him up nor the crap that came from Getz 'mouth about it. This is just the type of thing Getz wants to accomplish and it should be a good sign . I'm not predicting massive success but this is a very good development. Of course there's much more to be done.

  8. I am fine with Vargas sitting today, but this was a little bit of my concern with Elko. If you're married to playing AV most everyday, and the Sox sure seem to be, that means that one of Vargas, Sosa or Rojas have to sit. And the first two need all the ABs they can get and Rojas might be our 2nd best player.

  9. Glad Elko got the call, he's earned it. I'll be rooting for the guy, but I have low expectations. 30% K rates in the minor leagues do not translate well to the big leagues, especially for a DH type. I suspect most of the those clamoring for him the past month will be complaining about his inability to make contact in no time.

  10. I'm happy for Tim. Gotta be a good feeling to go from AAA to AAAA

  11. Another huge development win for Getz and his staff.

  13. Also, the idea of finding relievers with unique deliveries and mediocre stuff has been a huge flop

  14. I've only caught like 5 minutes of this game tonight but I've seen 2 plays that should've been appealed.

  15. Power is my top priority because they won’t pay for it and I think he can play CF

  16. The zero show of power is getting concerning (see Madrigal).

  17. The real problem is we're unlovable. If it were just incompetence it would be possible. With JR at the helm, the arrogence shines through. People genuinely hate this jerk.

  18. With the White Sox it's never a situation where "everybody is back."

  19. This is the type of waiver claim you bet on. A 25 year old young arm who was as high as #11 in the Yankees system just a couple of years ago. Fastball can touch 98 with movement. Its alot better than what they were doing originally putting waiver claims of 27-30 year old guys with little upside to go with it. He'll probably amount to little but you also never know. Getting out of New York and Los Angeles and that pressure from those good teams could help the kid.

  20. Maybe somehow you missed that it was because of what the new coaches wanted him to do and he applied it to become better. I don't know how far back you're talking about for him never really being known as a patient hitter considering he's only had 2 full seasons in the minors. He's a minor leaguer in the process of developing. It bothers me when people talk about prospects as if they are what they are . We should be pleased he's worked hard enough to get better rather than slapping labels on them.

  21. That's a lot of heavy lifting for Shane Smith right there. Vaughn in the 3-hole, Palacios batting 5th.

  22. There's no such thing as a cheap veteran who is consistent enough to do as you suggest. They picked up cheap veterans Tauchman, Slater, Rojas and they all got injured. Anyone who cost over $5M they weren't signing. And even then a $10M per year player who is a little better expects a multi year contract when they are a free agent. What you suggested either does not exist or was not an option for Reinsdorf. If I was to make wishes I would've wished for a lot more than you did. They pretty much had the same chance of happening the past couple off seasons.

  23. I was clamoring but I have zero expectations. He's another player that deserved a shot like any other minor leaguer who does well enough to get called up . If he was a 1st or 2nd round pick he would've been in the Sox Top 30 a while ago. Despite the high K rate he's done very well and progressed swiftly . You can say it's because he's older but that happens when you play through the Covid years and 5 years of college ball. He's been coachable for the new staff , done things they suggested and has become even better. He may or may not make it but he is more prepared to take his hacks than he was last year . That's what I expect. There's no call to make predictions or have expectations. Just let it play out.

  24. The lack of plate discipline and high K% isn't something that leads me to believe he will have long term success or turn into a potential long term answer for this team. But the kid is deserving to get a shot and can't be much worse than what we are seeing from Vaughn.

  29. Lots of great comments in this sad thread. Thank you all.

  30. Or maybe keep Thaiss and move Lee. I assume a last gasping hope that Vaughn can turn himself into something tradeworthy is why they keep him around.

  32. The ABC network ran a one hour special tonight on the Pope and had a segment in it about what team he roots for, the spoke with his brother who again said he is a Sox fan.

  34. Wow - I don't make it on here enough/as much these days. Like to pier in here and there to still see the pulse of things. Very sad to hear this. Alex was such a kind dude, and as others referenced, a bunch of us transformed from teens to 'adults' in the real world with this and some late night AIM being our constant water cooler or check-in. Always thought of Alex when I see an ISU game on over the years. Will still think of him when I see them. Rest in peace, good sir.

  35. McDougal's stuff was impressive today. 5IP/3ER, but a career high 9K and was hitting 100mph on the fastball. Frankeli Arias had a really nice 2.1IP out of the pen. BMont still hitting, 2-3 with 2 RBI so far.

  36. With Elko coming up, Leo can scratch off one miracle. Must be nice to knock the first one off so early in his tenure, really takes the pressure off for sainthood.

  39. It really bummed me out reading this news. So, so tragic. I honestly assumed he was an older guy based on how mature he came across and because he was one of the OGs that helped run the show here. I lurked here for a while before this account (let's be real, probably had an account or two that got banned, but I really don't remember). He was always such a quality poster as long as I can remember. He was only 2-3 years older than me, but damn was he wise and mature beyond his years. He was always kind to me despite whatever shenanigans of mine the mods had to deal with. Interesting the type of relationship/bond you can develop with people just by reading their posts and seeing their avatar frequently on an Internet forum, whether you conversed with them often or not. I was never particularly close with him, but it still hits home after sharing a message board with him for years and years. It's especially awful when somebody dies this young and in such a senseless manner. I wish everybody would take seriously the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle. RIP to one of the good ones. Heads clearly played a major part in making this place one of the best sports forums on the internet.

  40. My guess is he would say Billy Pierce or Nellie Fox

  41. A lot of how I feel has been said. It is odd how this can hit you despite not previously having a name or face to the man. This community has meant a lot to a lot of people. I will add that I dont know any ISU fans personally so whenever I see a athletics headline where they pull off an upset or win a big game, I would think of him. That will continue to be the case. Rest in peace.

  42. He was only 37. I've never met anyone on this board, at least knowingly, but like many of you, it was a huge part of my formative years. Heads always seemed like a genuinely kind and caring person, and this news makes me wish I'd gotten the chance to know Alex. I say he was only 37 in part because the persona he portrayed here demonstrated a maturity far beyond his years, and I would've thought he was several years older than me, not a year younger. Insane to think how quickly life can just end. Definitely a reminder to not take anything for granted. I'd like to know if there are public details regarding services, especially if there is a specific cause the family would like memorial contributions to go to. I want to do something in honor of Alex.
