They nearly got swept by the worst team in MLB history.

One could make the case the season was officially over on May 1 after that horrible April. As bad as the division is, with all the injuries and shortcomings thanks to an incompetent front office this team isn't going anywhere and needs to start the rebuild of the rebuild at the trade deadline.

I would like to see Sox management recognize that pitching wins games. Let’s keep our guys on the team instead of letting them walk and then sign pitchers on the cheap who are prone to injuries or just over the hill. Just look at our history and the pitchers we let go or traded away for a hope of catching lightning in a bottle and in the meantime giving up excellent prospects

Can't help but wonder if the team has offered to extend his contract this year. I hope they sign him. Considering the millions of dollars Hahn has wasted on players who weren't any good I can't understand why he wouldn't sign Giolito.

Just let him start in RF and figure it out the rest of the year please

I have contempt toward the organization. They're right there with Colorado and KC as the worst run teams in baseball. I actually don't hate the players, I can't stand management. It's really nobody's fault that the core guys that showed so much promise at one point got injured and lost their talent. s%*# happens. That being said, Hahn should be fired.

I don't hate the White Sox (never could), but I cant stand so many damn players on this team.

I was there. That's when it was fun to be a White Sox fan even when the team wasn't doing well.

July 4, 1960 - Bill Veeck’s exploding scoreboard was featured in a night shot on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The caption read, “Fireworks at Comiskey Park.” July 4-5, 1964 - During the 1960's the White Sox were synonymous with outstanding pitching...pitching that was the envy of most of Major League baseball excluding only perhaps, the Dodgers. The best example of this were these two days in Chicago over the Fourth of July holiday in 1964. In a time span of roughly 28 hours, the White Sox threw three straight complete game shutouts against the Indians. On the Fourth of July itself, Gary Peters blanked the Tribe on three hits, winning 4-0. In the Sunday doubleheader it was Juan Pizarro in game one, tossing a seven hitter, winning 2-0. Then in the nightcap it was Joe Horlen with a 5-0 blanking on four hits. In 27 innings, Cleveland managed no runs on 14 hits with seven walks. Now that’s pitching!!! July 4, 1972 - Sox catcher Ed Herrmann was involved in three double plays which tied the record for most involving a catcher in a single game. He tied former teammate J.C. Martin for the honor. The three included Herrmann in the middle of a pitcher-catcher-first base one, a strike out-throw out stealing twin killing and a thrown out at home, thrown out at second base one. The Sox turned five double plays against Baltimore at Comiskey Park… but lost 2-1! July 4, 1978 - At the urging of then manager Larry Doby, the White Sox brought up Tony LaRussa to become the club’s new first base coach. LaRussa cut his teeth managing with success in the minor leagues at Knoxville and was deemed ready by Doby and others to take the next step. LaRussa would go on to lead the Sox to the 1983 Western Division title and then win numerous pennants and championships as a manager with the A’s and Cardinals. He’d be elected to the Hall of Fame in 2014 with 2,728 wins over 33 seasons. He’d come out of retirement in 2021 to lead the White Sox and move into second place all-time on the managerial wins list in addition to winning the division and making the playoffs. July 4, 2000 - Ray Durham and Jose Valentin led off the Sox half of the first inning in Kansas City with back-to-back home runs. It was the second time in team history a game started that way and the first time since 1937. The game also marked the Major League debut for Jon Garland who only lasted three innings in the 10-7 loss. It was the end of the Sox 12 game road winning streak. The last 10 of those 12 road wins came against teams with records of at least .500, making the Sox the only team since 1900 to accomplish that. July 4, 2022 – Fundamentals win (or lose) games and for years the White Sox have suffered because they don’t execute the things very well that often mean the difference between winning and losing. On this night though what they did made the record book. In the seventh inning of a tie game against the Twins A.J. Pollock hit a long drive to right center field that was caught on the warning track by Byron Buxton who immediately threw the ball back to the infield. What happened next had never happened before in the history of baseball. Pinch runner Adam Engel and Yoan Moncada both lost track of the ball and assumed it hit the wall and was in play. Engel was at third base but had never tagged up, Moncada was right behind him. As Buxton’s throw bounced in to the infield, Twins third baseman Gio Urshela was in perfect position to tag Moncada for the second out, then ran and touched second base which meant Engel was also out. It was an 8-5 scored triple-play the first in baseball history. The White Sox would lose a key game 6-2 in 10 innings with the triple-play caused by errant baserunning probably costing them an important win.

Signing him long term does more for PR then performance. At this point in time the White Sox are a joke with players succeeding elsewhere that the White Sox were fleeced on. Semien Tatis, etc. There are the stupid contracts Leury, Hanser, Lynn, the bullpen and while Benrntendi then Grandal previously are the highest deals. There is something about extending Gio that shows me they care. I know they won't sign him and I know I will say to myself, thats too much for him when that happens.

There are so many other things with this organization that someone has to come to their senses about.

Haven't heard of a Neftali since Perez. It was really hard to even get three seats together...purchased with Visa card through assistance of hotel concierge workers who actually left the hotel to assist me (only 3800 yen so must be pretty high up). Unfortunately, no tipping allowed in JPN, but can give small thoughtful gifts like a shoehorn or umbrella for superior customer service. Just saw the infamous Hachiko (Akita) dog statue here in Shibuya...yesterday, mostly shopping near Ginza and attempting to learn the quote complex train and subway system Tokyo is famous for, ever since the 1960s/70s.

I like him, and actually thought he was a decent option for the Sox in RF to open the season. I was responding to the comment I quoted. However, the point remains the RF has been a gigantic hole for the Sox basically since Jermaine Dye left the Sox.

There's really no development left for him at AAA. He's proven he's a good AAA hitter and he's 24 with years of pro experience in Cuba. He's gotta sink or swim against MLB pitching now.

One of the worst pitches being thrown in the MLB. Barely uses his curveball and changeup. If they can't figure this out another arm the Sox couldn't develop that most likely ends up in the bullpen. Right now a 1 pitch pitcher. Really disappointing the lack of progress Kopech has made.

I remember as a kid we'd have the artificial hip bo as a pinch hitcher. I bet even on a metal hip bo could outrun gavin.

Reynaldo Lopez' last 10 appearances, by inning: 6: 1 7: 2 (including today) 8: 6 9: 1 His last appearance in the 7th inning before today was June 14th. I swear Sox fans invent things to be mad about as if there is some kind of shortage.

I think my favorite memory of The Shark is the time he looked out towards the bullpen wondering why noone was warming up to take him out.

Agree entirely. Frazier was over-matched by major league pitching. Looked like a wimpy red headed leprechaun up there. Colas has a chance to run into one and do some damage. Sox need to light up the scoreboard for the 4th !

As the schedule stands today, the White Sox have 21 games remaining in July. Unfortunately, I see the Sox going 6-15 or 7-14 in those games. I hope I'm, wrong, but I think their season will be officially before the end of July.

So not only did Colas not work out for the Sox in the first half of the season, the only reason he broke camp with the club was because the Sox made zero effort to upgrade RF in the offseason and put all their eggs in the preverbal "Oscar Colas basket" when he clearly wasn't ready. They're really fantastic at compounding their own self-inflicted wounds.
