  1. So the point of coming to the thread to bring attention to yourself is what exactly?

  2. Yeah, probably. I think Elvis can still be a useful guy to have around. I liked the signing for $3M. He provides insurance for a TA injury that won't leave us with a huge defensive liability out there. Even if Elvis is the guy he's been for the lionshare of the past half decade, he is still worth having around as a bench peice. I just don't think the Sox should pigeonhole him into 2B every single day. As I said when the Sox signed him, best case scenario is Romy, Sosa or JRod ripping that job away from him ASAP.

  3. Well the Giants hit like 25 of them yesterday so that kind of skews the statistics.

  4. Hawk is a legend, his catchprases were and always will be an essential part of my baseball vocabulary (my wife the O's fan says "put it on the board"), and in his prime as an announcer I never cared how biased he was, I loved that s%*# and that he was openly rooting for the team like me. But like several others have said, the last few years were just painful to listen to, he'd have tantrums on the air, long periods of awkward silence, droning on about the same old stories he's been telling since I was a kid... it was time, and Benetti was ready to step up.

  5. And on that note, I will let @caulfield12 take the reins.

  6. His combination of hit tool & raw power as a middle infielder is super exciting. Just in terms of raw power, I remember looking through some data last year and he would have been like ~80th percent tile in terms of max EV. If he's able to start tapping into that regularly, oh boy, look out.

  7. I know a few folks have mentioned it, but I wouldn't be shocked if Sosa displaces Andrus at some point this season.

  8. I cannot see a single post on this thread. Bliss.

  9. Been looking for it for awhile. Andrus deserves a spot on the bench next few games. Let Romy play for a few days, Elvis has been dreadful.

  10. No doubt Kopech served up quite a few. I just think there is evidence that the balls are jumping around baseball again and it isn’t isolated to a bad outing here or there.

  11. I think our offense will be fine. I think our starting pitching will be mostly fine. I'm not worried about Kopech I think he comes around. But there are only 2 maybe 3 arms in the pen that instill any confidence and that's a large problem. And post cancer treatment Hendricks should not be considered a sure thing. It'll take time to rebuild strength. But you know the company line will be, "Liam will be back soon and we'll be fine." There is always at least one area Hahn fails to address and it always comes back to bite him. He learns nothing.

  12. Maybe they wouldn’t be so bad if Sox starting pitchers could do a normal six innings instead of five…
    2 points
  13. Well already they've scored three runs or less in four of the five games. If memory serves at the end of last year they scored three runs or less in exactly half of their games. Tough to win that way, puts a lot of stress on the pitching staff.

  14. Well, he sings for 4 seconds every game and that is too much for some people to tolerate.

  15. Just don't understand the JB hate from some/many here. The guy is a very good broadcaster.

  17. Grifol saw no reason to even start the bullpen going while people in the stands were complaining about the fact that no one was even up in the bullpen....even after Kopech allowed 3 home runs. Instead Grifol let Kopech get pummeled which put the home opener all but out of reach. It truly felt like a beat down. At minimum, Grifol /Katz should have made a mound visit and told Kopech to throw high, inside fastballs to back some of these Hank Aarons off the plate. I guess that job is now left for Cease...

  18. When choosing between myself and Chuck....I'd listen to Jason

  19. Here’s hoping that happens and obviously because Lenyn forces the issue. For whatever reason, it seems like Sosa is slept on way too much by the prospect community. To me, he screams 2 to 3 win 2B (despite not having a particularly loud tool), but perhaps I’m in the minority here.

  20. I don't think Grandal was an overpay. The first 2 years he lived up to the contract, obviously last year he did not. 2023 is still tbd.

  21. LaRussa handled the Sosa recall last year so poorly it doesn't near revisiting. Personally more excited about Brayan Ramos, but everyone has their own infield favorites.

  23. Leury always seemed like a good dude. No hard feelings and I hope he catches on somewhere.

  24. One issue they finally undressed was not giving up more HR to the visitors in their home park. That was really annoying last year. 1-7 after one game.

  25. Was watching some highlights last night and it looked like the ball was jumping of the bats. What looked like normal swings that would result in a fly ball were 5 rows deep
    1 point
  26. he is a much better option to step in and help the infield in any capacity than Leury was. Great signing even if he falls back to the norm. Also...Romy needs a chance to play and impress...but Grifol is going to push Elvis hard until he gets #2000

  29. It could just be that an otherwise pretty good player had a really bad game.

  30. Don't know the guy but the sense I get is that he just wanted a release for how bad this organization has screwed up the rebuild and angered the fan base. And that fact that enough money was raised to do this in the first place shows he was correct in that assumption. Full disclosure: I donated a few dollars myself and I'd do it again.

  31. I do too, but I'm pretty sure Dylan Cease doesn't hate them, as I recall he had a really good ERA last season in all his day games whether home or away.

  32. A successful organization has a backup plan to Kopech for when he fails and has a nice career as a reliever. The backup plan was Davis Martin or bust.

  33. deGrom still had elite stuff, despite bad results. What we’ve seen all ST and in today’s game is that Kopech has either lost his velocity or he’s not fully recovered. This was absolutely not a fluke today considering how he’s been throwing for the last month.

  34. But not the perennial Cy Young contender we were promised... Under 35,000 for Opening Day attendance doesn't bode well. We'll get a much better idea of their attendance/season ticket base during the April/weekday home games.

  38. Ruiz is our right handed Diekman. Both are only suitable for mop up duties. Bad job by Hahn starting the season with these two losers.

  41. Hawk is whining like he did on some broadcasts. He spent over 30 years with the organization in various capacities and made a great living. Perhaps things didn't end like he wanted, but overall, he had to be happy with the experience as a whole. Regardless, it was time for him to go. I am not really interested in anything he has to say.

  44. I know Hawk wanted to die in the booth and all that, but that's not exactly conducive to great broadcasting.

  45. That sounds like 68% of the people at most games. Watch the outfielders people

  46. Sorry Hawk, it was time. It was actually past time. You were great, until you weren’t. They did you and everyone a favor. I appreciate that you went out magnanimously and didn’t make a fuss, but the interview sounded like a lot of sour grapes to me. It’s too bad that you’re crotchety and bitter about it, but it was for the best.

  47. Based on populations there are dozens more who are and just afraid to say it out loud. It would be nice if people who are straight didn't cause so many problems for those who weren't so they didn't have to "deal" with it either, but that isn't the case.
