  1. I firmly and vehemently disagree with the notion that this team is being dramatically held back by managing and that you can somehow see that because one starter had an excellent game against a team with its own offensive issues. 36 year olds who have lost fastball velocity but can still have an occasional good game aren’t being held back by their manager. This is just a plain old bad team. That doesn’t mean Pedro is any good, it just means that they’re a bad baseball team. I don’t care if it’s Bobby Cox, Joe Torre, Joe Maddon, or Kevin Cash. They’d still be bad.

  2. Feel like we’re at a point where they’re doing a disservice to any player they draft or sign.

  3. Ok if you were still undecided on whether Grifol was a complete loser, this little tirade just officially put the final stamp on it. When you think of how challenged this Sox team was in the off-season, this further illustrates what a idiot Hahn is, thinking a rookie manager from a losing organization could come in and make significant improvement to this flawed Sox team. Both Hahn and Grifol need to be fired.

  4. WTF happened to Jimmy Lambert? He had a swollen ankle. Rick Hahn is an embarrassment. Tanner Banks and Nick Padilla are the first options brought up???? We have been healthy on the pitching front and this is who is run out there. Why do I still care about this loser organization. Tanner Banks is going to give up 6+ runs in 3 innings but for the genius manager, they have an off day Thursday so we can plan the series with that in mind. What a moron. This organization is a joke.

  5. The White Sox are doing this player a disservice calling him up. He is nowhere near ready.

  6. Burger missed 2 years of development with injuries. Anybody who says that doesn't matter is out of their mind. The fact that he's up here playing better than most of the "core" that was supposed to lead the parades is actually amazing. 3/4 of the roster would be in the Mexican League before Burger yet the same guy clamors for Billy Hamilton every chance he gets.

  8. 5 1/2 behind Guadalajara but they will turn it around very soon

  9. Firing anybody isn't going to help until there's new ownership. I don't think Grifol and the coaching staff are telling the players to swing at so many balls and hit the ball on the ground so much. At some point the players have to be accountable.

  10. OK, so who's responsible for the bad team? RICK FUCKIN HAHN. Pedro? Who cares. What does arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic do?
    4 points
  11. Or Little Jerry? Like Grifol is threatening to fight someone over it?
    4 points
  12. Neither. He is saying if you don't like how he does his job, then too bad. His highest boss isn't complaining to him, so leave him be. That is what Grifail is saying.

  13. Putting out the line up that will help them win? Is he aware of the results?

  14. Why would Quentin be a good comp? Carlos had 36 homers in his age 25 year, had a 30 homer per 162 avg, and had an 830 plus career OPS. Vaughn has shown no signs he is even close to that level.

  15. Sox lead the world in swinging at sliders that miss by 2 feet

  16. Started with Buddy Bell. He was somehow employed as something important for waaaaaaaay to long of a time.

  17. Vaughn is better than Dan Pasqua.

  18. Well I'm pretty sure they could go 2-8 in the next 10 games and still be 5 1/2 back

  19. What, doesn't every team in their 'contention window' run out Tanner Banks and Nick Padilla on the mound?

  20. Their 13th round first baseman is out hitting Vaughn too. Honest to god it's almost impossible to F this thing up more than Hahn.

  21. Not sure even Jesus, who believed in his teammates, could do much with this Sox team.

  22. He was on the Sox from 91-93 .227 BA, .615 OPS, 2HR in 154 games. Would fit right in with this years team.

  23. Are you f'ing kidding me? "You don't have the answer in all candor." My god, you put this shitty flawed roster together, as well as hiring the loser manager Grifol. Why the f*$k don't you have some answers? You are paid millions to have the damn answer. Your fans deserve more than your constant arrogant and condescending excuses.

  24. If you're looking at a team that has Betts, Freeman, and Smith in their lineup and Gonsolin and Kershaw in the rotation, and not thinking "They're quite a bit better than us", you're just wrong. And if you're also not noting that team was missing Urias, Lux, Syndergaard, Hudson, Treinen, Tracy Thompson, Pepiot, and the big ones - Buehler and May for TJS - you're missing a key part of the point. The White Sox are dramatically healthier than the Dodgers, one of the healthiest teams in the league like people demanded for years, and they're still no where near as good.

  25. Starting with that horrible, horrible, devastating Friday night loss to Tampa Bay that launched the Sox into a downward spiral of lost series after lost series. There are more examples after that in the following month. Look at the spiral of lost series Sox are stuck in again. A huge, probably the biggest factor, was Reylo giving the game away against the Dodgers with the grand slam . . . . the loading the bases and the triple today. It just seems like every one of his blown saves/ losses just completely suck any spirit hope out of both the Sox and us fans. I keep seeing people on here saying get rid of this guy or dfa that guy, but no one seems to want to unload Lopez. Let me get that ball rolling. The Sox need to unload Lopez NOW. Pedro stop, completely stop, putting him out there. He’s killing us.

  26. There are better players in the minors who would help at the big league level?

  27. Sox will wait 3-4 days before putting TA back on the IL to go along with basically half of the club. LOL. They LOVE to play shorthanded. That batting order tonight is simply pathetic.

  28. Tanner Banks gets the start tonight. Game should be over by 7:30.

  29. I wouldn’t put it past Jerry to tell them Anderson must bat leadoff, and probably got his advice from TLR. Jerry is a Grade-A egotistical asshole that thinks he knows what he’s doing despite never actually winning anything outside of lucking into MJ and having the stars align in 2005.

  30. Burger is 27 and has only played 120 games. He still has a lot to learn, batting him lower takes some pressure off while he is adjusting to pitchers adjustments of nothing but down and away pitches he needs to lay off. I’d rather see him bat 6th or 7th based on the dearth of quality players, but that’s just quibbling. If the writer watched some of those terrible at bats Jake had flailing at balls far beyond the strike zone this weekend, he’d have the answer as to why Jake Burger is batting in the bottom third of the lineup. You had Robert, Eloy and others also with bad approaches, but they’ve been here for years and you can’t bat everyone in the 7-9 holes.

  31. Don't get me wrong, Grifol should be fired but there isn't a manager that could win with these players.

  32. Which is just hilarious. They crapped in the bed and now they don’t want to sleep in their feces-stained bed.

  33. So many times watching the postgame, it’s so obvious this team would be better with Ozzie managing. I know it’s not happening but it’s true. The Sox would be better with him. And a lot more fun.

  34. Remember when AV was a star bat? I don't either, but people here sure as hell made him out to be one. For all of our rebuild pain, we were rewarded with Madrigal-Kimbrel-Pollock and Vaughn. Let that sink in.

  35. Most on SoxTalk celebrated when Ricky was fired, despite doing a solid job with 1 1/2 starting pitchers in Oakland. Ricky had his team hustling, cohesive, and playing hard through 9 innings. Ricky got the most out of most players, even guys like Leury and Engel. The games were fun to watch, the team was likable, the team liked each other, and there was reason for optimism that with a better rotation, solid corner OFers (1 or 2 LH with power, both with decent to solid defense), this team could legitimately contend. He deserved one more season, with a strong payroll (17th was his highest), some decent coaching additions and the significant money spent on FAs like they did for Tony.

  37. He should be traded, and Burger should play first full time, with Sheets spelling him occasionally and when Burger moves to 3B because Moncada is hurt.

  38. Believe it's an oblique injury for Sosa. José has a .302/.330/.558 line over the last month, so it's more encouraging than the full season line would suggest. If they really need an infielder I'd rather see Rodriguez over Yolbert or Erik Gonzalez or some other AAAA fodder. Let the kids play, this team stinks so this at least piques my interest.

  39. An infielder with a back injury! Sounds a perfect fit for the White Sox team, bring him up!

  40. Close to what exactly? They’re the third worst team in the AL. You basically say they’re missing the entire core of a roster. They’re closer to being the As than the Rays.

  41. This right here. It's been clear for some time that Reylo can really only be used when the game is out of hand to eat up innings but Grifol continues to throw him into high leverage situations. I know why he does it, and why he sticks with Anderson at lead off. He's trying to show his guys he "has their back" so that they don't play so tight. But that only works when guys have defined roles. Lopez does not, and Tim just kind of fell into the lead off role when he had batting champion numbers. This isn't a.....Hendricks blows 3 saves in a week but he's a closer and he will stay our closer....situation. This feeds right into Grifol just really not having a feel for the game or his team and the negative reverberations are plentiful.
