  1. The biggest problem with all of this is it's just more middling. They did too many trades for a "retooling" and not enough for a rebuild. No real direction just more half assing. And enough of this trading Burger at his peak, or because of his defense nonsense. They traded him instead of Eloy because they are too stubborn and stupid to admit failure. Instead they're doubling down on this atrocious core out of spite.

  3. like it's all the bad of 2017 without the fun of having 3 garcias in the outfield.

  5. Hopefully Burger doesn't enter that Puig/Tatis territory where Caufield is so obnoxious and unlikable that you start hoping the kid fails.

  6. Yep, there’s really no hope. They desperately need a new front office that will look at things more realistically. The fact Vaughn was untouchable is one of the saddest things I’ve heard.

  7. I just don't know how you can look at the lifeless "core" of this team and not blow the entire thing up -- manager, players, front office, development staff. They are non-competitive to the core.

  10. This should be a lesson that you don’t spend big money on RP. Unless you’re truly a CL/RP away from a title, it’s one of the worst uses of resources. The Sox were spending what like $35M+ on RP’s entering the season, that’s crazy.

  11. Stone has, in fact, done the complete opposite. He has become a spokesman for JR, and is giving fans a bunch of BS. Meanwhile, the team is going through the motions. At this point, there is little reason to watch the team. There's nothing to see no matter what Stone says. This is as depressing as it can get.

  13. Didn't see the first 2 innings, but I've liked what I've seen from Nastrini. Change up better than I imagined. Good slider. I imagine the challenge is fastball command.

  14. Yeah, at least we had young guys like Melton, May and Herrmann to look forward to.

  16. I said I have a sliver of hope this is true (not saying it's a done deal, just a hope/suspicion). She said she closed the deal with Kenny Williams during her radio interview. "We had a handful of deals that we thought were there, or close to being there, but we really felt we had to get one locked in. So at that point we decided to go with Mr. Burger. Called Kenny Williams, got that one done, in the books.... I have a pretty good relationship with Kenny." The Sox have scored in 0 or 1 innings in 34% of their ballgames, and 0 - 2 innings in 57% of their games. White Sox Record Scoring In Regulation (Extra Innings not considered, but results are) 0-10 Zero Innings 9% 5-22 One Inning 24% 9-17 Two Innings 24% 17-13 Three Innings 27% 9-4 Four Innings 12% 1-1 Five Innings 2% 2-0 Six Innings 2%

  17. Yea. Hahn's sounded like a press secretary (although, he always sounds like that). I suspect that Harold's info was accurate - sounds like he's finished. But will KW join him?

  27. The hot takes are flowing like a waterfall. Not just around Burger, but also Giolito, Lynn, Lopez, etc. White Sox Twitter (or White Sox X, I guess now) is virtually impossible to read. Burger had a nice game and had some great post game comments. I'm glad he's happy there, and I hope he tears the cover off the ball forever. But we hate the White Sox organization so much that we look at one outing after a player is traded and attribute their success to the fact that they don't play for the Sox anymore. Realistically, Jake will probably have very similar offensive numbers in Miami as he did here. If he's happier, that's great. Good for him and for the Marlins. Look at Giolito. He had a decent first outing (very 2023 Gio-like) and a horrible second outing. Lynn had a very 2023 Lance-like outing. They will probably both perform similarly to how they did in Chicago this year. A change of scenery can do some good, but it won't change who a player is performance-wise that much. The White Sox fucked up the rebuild so badly, and we're right to want big changes. Maybe some changes will occur after this year, maybe not. But most of us will be back. It's okay to love the team and the players and hate the organization. But, man, we can't look at one game after a player is traded and say, "See! I knew he sucked because he played for the White Sox. We got boned in that trade."

  29. 1) We shouldn't have been in this position. 2) Due to how weak our farm system was, (caveat for it is only one ranking system, 2023 picks not included) the prospects we acquired according to MLB.com now make up our #2,4,5,7,14,27 and a low 30s prospects. 3) It was a solid haul of prospects for what we gave up, our relative lack of leverage, and saved a fair bit of payroll. 4) Using some historical data, we should expect several of these players to get to the major leagues. One or two may be reasonably solid players. On one of the deadline broadcasts it was mentioned that over something like the last 15 years 574 prospects were traded. 3% became major impact (not sure what qualifies) and a bit over 10% became solid regulars (again don't know their criteria). It dampens my enthusiasm but overall, we received some players closer to the majors and higher rated than what most other teams received so maybe somewhat better odds.

  31. Of course the FO prioritizes sending off good vibe players like Burger instead of the cancers. Isnt this why KW employs Boston? For the clubhouse scoop?

  32. Burger got 2 hits and a walk in the Marlins win tonight. Made good contact. Good defense. Showing energy. I still don’t like this trade. Burger has been improving, and we need sluggers in our team. Burger interview after the game said he liked the Marlins clubhouse energy and the feeling that they are never out of the game, and he was warmly welcomed. I think this was a dig at the Sox clubhouse in a way.

  34. Here are Rick’s “core” players for 2024 with their current fWAR: Lineup: Robert, CF = 4.1 Benintendi = 0.8 Jimenez = 0.7 Vaughn = 0.1 Moncada = (0.1) Anderson = (0.5) Colas = (0.6) Rotation: Cease = 2.4 Kopech = (1.6) Bullpen: Santos = 1.3 Bummer = 1.1 Crochet = (0.1) That’s a total of 7.4 fWAR from our “core” this year. Strip out Robert & Cease and it’s only 0.9 fWAR. Good luck to this one into a division next year Rick!

  37. That would be a huge departure from the organization's usual procedures. Ozzie had to quiet quit and Tony had a health issue to be allowed off of this sinking ship. Pedro will, like almost every WS manager before him, will work every day of his contract. In 2026 they will announce he isn't being offered a contract extension and some random former player will take his place.

  46. From MLB.com today reviewing the deal just FYI: Of course, that the White Sox were willing to trade a feel-good success story who can’t be a free agent until after 2028 tells you a little something, and there’s no shortage of red flags here; he’s a below-average fielder; his .279 on-base percentage is well below-average; he’s hit .173/.253/.470 over the last two months. Throw in a 32% strikeout rate and he’s the Anti-Marlin in lot of ways, which isn’t a bad thing given their total lack of power, but it’s also possible that the White Sox viewed this as found money, turning a pre-season question mark into a well-regarded 24-year-old Double-A starter who could be in Chicago as soon as next year.
