  1. Amazing how the latin guys on the vast majority of all the other teams don't have these issues. Pinning this as a "latin" thing is stupid. This is a WHITE SOX thing. Our white players are brain dead, our AA players are brain dead. Our SOX players are brain dead.

  2. For a guy that was touted as a great communicator, my god is Pedro awful at communicating with the press and general public. And like it or not, that's part of his job.

  3. The Athletic interviewed Dave Wilder. First interview he's given since he was fired/jailed. Some not so surprising comments within. https://theathletic.com/4853621/2023/09/12/white-sox-exec-bonus-skimming/

  4. I just can’t root for this team as I have for over 40 years with Pedro as manager. I am not sure if I have ever seen a manager less inspiring and just plain tone deaf. The correct response, ‘we want Oscar to contribute to the team in 2024 and we feel this move gives him the best chance to do that by continuing to build on his foundation.’ The scapegoating has to stop. Does anybody really wonder why this team lacks any sense of motivation or urgency?

  5. The guy was rushed. Expecting him to contribute to a contender was a stretch. I get sending him down, but there is no reason Pedro has to basically call him out to the press. Like all guys who have great arms, he likes to show his off. His throw the other day was bad, but he clearly slipped when throwing. He should have called for the ball on the collision with Andrus, but shouldn’t Elvis have called for it as well. Despite what Stone said during the telecast the replay shows Elvis said squat. He’s a young guy who hasn’t been taught the nuances of the game. Chris Getz’ development team failed him., and Pedro and his staff are apparently incapable.

  6. The move itself is generally understandable as sending a message to a guy who has clearly stank this year. The questions that this raises include - why isn’t this standard applied to the veterans (and you know darn well it isn’t), and why they didn’t take steps to work on this before handing him the RF spot last spring. Maybe we should ask the minor league coordinator what exactly he was doing with his time I bet he has to come up with an excuse.

  8. I say trade for Massey and Nicky Lopez of the Braves. Might as well lose with a south sider and Napervillian if we have to lose.

  9. Just trade Kopech for whatever Tier B/C and lottery tickets you can get. He's never going to succeed as a reliever again with all the water under the bridge from failing to meet expectations dating back to the Sale trade and #1 RHP prospect ranking. Better to move on for both sides.

  10. He had 33 plate appearances in AAA befor this season, and the Sox made him the starting RF. He basically needs to learn how to play baseball. When they used to have Soxfest, I was at a seminar about the minor leagues. Buddy Bell was mentioning how unlike American players, most Latin signees have very little game experience. These guys get signed like some NFL teams draft based on combines. It takes time to know which bas to throw to, how to move runners over etc. Some do, most don’t. And it appears the White Sox don’t do a very good job of teaching at least their better prospects, these things.

  11. I attend at least two per year. One for my birthday in April, one at another point with either friends or family. This year I went to one against Tampa in April where they gave up 10 runs in the 7th inning and I am thinking of going with my dad and son on Sunday so my dad can experience a Sox game with his grandson and we can get a three generations of Sox fans picture. I know some of you will scoff at the fact I am going to a game when they are this bad but the memory of it will mean the world to me and I might not get that chance next year with another child on the way.

  12. I know they’ve lost a lot of vendors in the last few years. The move to cashless payments really screwed them. I try to bring as many singles as I can when I go to games for tips because a lot of people won’t tip at all when swiping. The lack of traffic on this site is kinda depressing. Can’t even wallow in our own misery together.

  13. I enjoyed how white sox daily was tweeting some of these out as the Carolina A leagues wrapped up. Did not know Michael Turner won batting champion.

  14. Relative to the traffic here, I've been thinking about that myself. Normally I'm checking countless times a day, even if I post or respond infrequently. I've found myself checking in, seeing the same tired threads on the main page that don't do anything for me, and I check out. A losing team and losing culture definitely have trickle down effects. I know this comment adds nothing to the discourse and I'm doing nothing to make it better, and I'm part of the problem as a result. And that's my observation.

  17. Well, tonight wasn’t a bullpen problem. It is pretty cool to give up 8 runs in the first inning and not take the loss.

  19. Don’t worry, I guarantee that we will hear how happy everyone is with the job Getz has done and that we won’t ever see another 1b shoved into the OF again. Like we heard this year.

  24. Yeah for some reason we're the only team with consistently "baseball stupid" LatAm players. It's a White Sox thing. It's how Chris Getz teaches baseball, apparently.

  25. For this to happen though, someone is going to have to present a full development plan to the city where the ballpark is only one part of it. That means there is going to be money in the project that doesn't go to Reinsdorf, and his ballpark would be part of a revitalization plan. Does that sound like Reinsdorf?

  26. I totally agree but in principle a stadium could be a driver for economic development, there was an opportunity to 'reimagine' that area when they were building the present day park but totally blew the opportunity. The same firm designed GRF and Camden Yards at essentially the same time and begged the Sox to go in a different direction, alas. I'm not saying to build Wrigleyville at 35th and Shields but there's truly nothing to do after a game except get on the red line or in your car and go somewhere else. I think the difference between now and then is that large-scale developer money is flowing south and the city incentivizes these sorts of megaprojects. Not saying the city won't get ripped off on a new park, just that there's a scenario where Reinsdorf or whoever owns the team makes a bunch of money and the public gets something out of it. I don't mind if the city kicks in money if there's an actual public benefit to be derived and democratic oversight, tend to think that's better than giving a developer carte blanche to do whatever they want as long as they fund it themselves.

  27. I'm just not buying the economic impact argument anymore. It reminds me of a coworker back in Chicago. One of the Bears players was at a bar we were at (Snuggery) and everyone was tripping over themselves buying him drinks. Spro looked over and said f*** him he can buy his own drink, he's rich. It made a lot of sense.

  29. I haven’t renewed my 10 game plan since the Covid shutdowns, which happens to correspond to when they brought TLR back from the dead to nap in the dugout. I didn’t go to a single game in 2021. I have been to four total games since. I went to the Opening Day debacle this year and that was just about the last straw. I am reluctant to give them any money while JR is still around, and if I do, it will be to watch the road team.

  30. September 12, 1900 - The White Sox beat the Cleveland Blues 12-4 and 9-1 in Chicago to clinch the franchise’s first pennant. However, the American League wasn’t recognized as an official Major League at the time, that would come the following year. Roy Patterson got the win in the game. The season seemed to set the tone for the franchise, exceptional pitching and defense with just enough hitting to win games. Cleveland manager Jimmy McAleer said as much after the Sox clinched against his club. “It's the strangest thing that ever happened. A club with no good batsman to win a flag! Why, such a thing was never heard of before. (Dick) Padden has done most of it. He has been the whole works, and has shown himself a born general. The pitchers did the rest, with special credit to that lad Patterson.” September 12, 1976 – At nearly 53 years old, “Minnie” Miñoso became the oldest player in Major League history to get a hit, singling in the second inning of a 2-1 White Sox win over California. Angels starter Sid Monge surrendered the hit. Miñoso would later strike out and fly out to left in the game, won by the White Sox on Brian Downing’s walk-off double in the 10th inning. Both Monge and future Hall-of-Famer Rich Gossage went the distance in this meaningless September game between teams with a combined record of 125-160. September 12, 2016 – The White Sox tied an unusual franchise record as they beat the Indians 11-4 at U.S. Cellular Field. In the game the Sox scored at least one run in every inning. It was only the 20th time in Major League history that a team had accomplished this. The Sox banged out 16 hits, Avisail Garcia getting four of them. Six went for extra bases. The first time the franchise accomplished this was May 11, 1949 beating the Red Sox at Comiskey Park. September 12, 2019 – All-Star right-hander Lucas Giolito set a White Sox record by striking out eight straight Royals hitters from the third through the fifth inning during an afternoon game at Guaranteed Rate Field. Of the eight, seven were swinging strikeouts and Meibrys Viloria was caught looking. The run started with Whit Merrifield to open the third and ended with Nicky Lopez grounding out to shortstop Tim Anderson to end the fifth. Giolito finished with 12 strikeouts overall. Carlos Rodon (September 30, 2016, against the Twins) and Joe Cowley (May 28, 1986, at the Rangers) previously shared the White Sox consecutive strikeout mark at seven. According to STATS, Giolito’s eight straight tied for the seventh-longest single-game MLB run at that time. But even with his brilliant afternoon he lost the game 6-3 giving up a pair of home runs, one of which was a three-run shot which made the difference. September 12, 2020 – For the second time in his career Sox first baseman/DH Jose Abreu had himself a game to remember. The slugger drove home seven runs in a 14-0 slaughter of the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. The team record is eight in a game. Jose first did this in 2016. He went 4 for 4 and scored five runs. Abreu became the first White Sox player in club history to get four-plus hits, two homers, seven RBI and five runs scored in a game. It was also his 17th multi-home game.

  37. Last year he played 14 games against dudes (on average) 4+ years older than him in his first full season and admittedthat he was just gassed by then end. He's nearly doubled the games played there this season (31), still 2.5 years younger and coming off an injury. We'll see how he handles the AFL, but way to premature to start panicking.

  42. “These last couple of weeks of the season, I need to spend more time with Pedro, the coaching staff and the players just to learn more about areas that we need to get better,” Getz said. Learn more about areas we need to get better, that would be pitching, hitting fielding, trading, drafting, player development, have I missed anything?
