  1. Precisely why Dylan Cease is worth a boatload. Lance Lynn just got $11M guaranteed after posting a 6 ERA. But sure, Cease will just get 1 back end top 100 guy. lolz

  2. Lance Lynn after giving up his 3rd homer in an inning: "How could the Cardinals' gold glove defense do this to me?"

  3. For people that think we're going to sign the middle-tier starters to round out our rotation, take a good look at this deal for this caliber of pitcher, and now reconsider what our rotation will really look like this year.

  5. Seems crazy to me. Thirty million for three years? I don't think Lopez is worth anywhere near that much.

  6. Just because SS is an important defensive position and he gets +WAR for playing there doesn't mean he is good at it. He was terrible. TA was 18th out of 20 qualified in UZR. 20th out of 20 in DRS. Dude sucks.

  7. This isn't true at all. If he were free, he would've been picked up. The claiming team would've had to pay the $4 million buyout.

  8. Good for ReyLo.....im sure he will do well now that he is playing for a legit organization that can develop players

  9. I love Rushing... But dealing our 2 best trade chips the last 2 years for Catchers (Quero then Rushing) would be extremely underwhelming..

  12. Yeah I kind of prefer the Os too depending on what we can get obviously. Ortiz can be a ++ SS and he has a playable bat too so u don't need to force Monty there if it's not working and I think either LHH outfielder from them is great. Just get the two bats and Povich unless the Dodgers are willing to part with Busch, Pages AND a Top 100 SP.

  13. I'd much prefer bats from the O's than any of these rough Dodgers offers that are thrown around.

  14. Didnt Reese Mcguire do that and he ended up on the Sox because of it.

  15. We need position players bad IMO. We got Nastrini, Eder and Bush and we've been told at least one of Soroka or Shuster will be in the rotation. Presumably before they traded for Nastrini, Eder or Bush they talked to our Farm Director (now GM) to get his thoughts on these minor leaguers since his "expertise" if you can call it that is presumably the minor leagues, so I think getting 2 SPs back as the main pieces for Cease is overkill. How bout we fucking develop the guys we apparently wanted and traded for? Since 24 is lost, why don't we just get position players and come 25 see whether one or more of Pallette, Mena, Thompson, Schultz is ready to be in the rotation? Schultz was destroying Low A hitters and I bet if given the chance he would have destroyed High A hitters if he didn't get shut down early as a precaution. We need legit bats. You got Quero fine....how bout RF and 2B? Maybe Pages and Busch? Or Cowser/Hjerstad and Ortiz? The SP prospect can be the third piece....yes they will be flawed, but even the Dodgers other SP prospects in the top 100 are flawed. Just get the damn bats and go with a close to MLB ready 4/5 low ceiling SP prospect as the third piece.

  16. The Reynaldo contract is reasonable to me. This Lynn contract, on the other hand, suggests that the Sox will have to undertake some reclamation projects. Soroka is one. And another is our very own Kopech. Trading Kopech WOULD be selling at low value.

  20. Tim was a -19 in defensive runs saved above average, a -1 in baseball savant's fielding value (89th overall SS), and a -7.6 in Fangraphs runs above average per 150 games (good for 93rd of 126 ranked SS, or 18th out of 20 qualifying SS's. He was by all definitions a horrific SS last year.

  22. Lol...I think Bartolo is @Chicago White Sox second least favorite fake insider out there behind only Lion in Texas. On the merits, it's not a bad proposal you get two pitchers plus a RF....only thing missing is left handed savagery. Take out Knack and Barnes and replace with Busch.

  23. Lots of good research done in this thread, but I feel like every Dodgers proposal is underwhelming to me. I’m surprised more people aren’t suggesting Lux as the main piece back.

  24. No one picked up Clevinger when he was completely free on waivers at the end of August. He wasn’t moved because teams would rather lose the pennant than acquire him.

  25. Nah talking about Outman doesn’t. The childish attitude of “I was right all along” without offering any sort of deal the Dodgers would be interested from a year ago is what triggers me. Edit: what are you 12? Be better.

  26. That's the dumbest criteria for talking about anything I ever heard of. People talk about which FA the Sox should sign all the time knowing JR is the Sox owner and most of time they have no shot whatsoever .It's called having an interest in your team and wanting them to do things we know deep down aren't going to happen. Having a " seat at the table" became the biggest joke of the Hahn era right up there with " "talk to me at the parade. " People are talking about wanting Outman now and there might've been a better shot at him last year before he put up 4.4 fWar . Now they can't really afford him because despite his meager salary if he was in a Cease trade how much else would the Sox get ? We know the Sox are not going to get any MLB high fWar guys in return for Cease. Getz wants to multiply in the same way any GM rebuilding turns top trade chips into multiple prospects.

  28. I wonder what the possibility of a Cease + Eloy deal to the Diamondbacks for a crazy prospect package is? Both players fit a need for the Dbacks (at least in theory Eloy does) without breaking whatever budget they have. They also have a very young core in place so trading blocked prospects makes sense to capitalize on the WS run and not fall off. A Tommy Young and Colson left side of the IF in 2026 would be pretty sexy. Young, Lin, De Le Santos + would be a nice shot in the arm to the rebuild.
    1 point
  29. Thanks. Each package has issues. A combination of the names might be better than those options....ie Busch, Pages and Knack if they won't throw in a Top 100 pitcher as the third piece. Push comes to shove....main compensation should be bats. Knack is a good third piece.

  30. Helton, Beltre, Wagner.... Beltran should be in but not sure if the cheating thing will hurt. I think Andruw will eventually get in. Torii might have somewhat of a case in the future

  31. Poles can play the I didn't hire this clown car coaching staff then he gets his hire. The Fields card ends after this year whichever way it goes. Hire an offensive head caoch that can work with FIelds and an experienced DC.

  32. If you go with the O's then look at Connor Norby, a top 2nd base prospect. The Sox havent had a 2nd baseman worth a damn in years. He looks to be a 15-20HR guy with a .280 average. Hit 29 HRS in 2022 and 21 in 2023

  33. I would have kept some of our talent but Chris will have our guys wearing 4A patches on their unis. Even the Charlotte guys couldn't stand the smell wafting in from the old stockyards.

  34. An issue with some of the Dodgers pitching is that most and/or all of those players are not exactly young for being prospects. If I am dealing Cease I would want players young than 25-26 years old as centerpieces.
    1 point
  35. The 4-D chess move for Poles would be improving the team outside of QB (MHJ, Olu), sitting back and buying more time for himself, while still holding onto the “Fields isn’t my QB” card. This draft may very well have future HOF talent taken as the 3rd or 4th QB selected overall. If they don’t select the right one, and go through another Mahomes scenario, Poles is done. Especially with a likely Top 5 pick, and another inside the Top 10.

  38. I'm sure it was much lower last year. Steamer doesn't start making decent projections until a player has a few quality seasons under their belt. It's just a typical Steamer projection weighing last season vs everything else they take into account which considering where he was drafted and the age of his 1st season you have to really be impressive to take a huge leap from 1st to 2nd year projections. Corbin Carrol is 3 years younger than Outman and was a 1st round choice and his 22 and 23 years combines he had 7.4 fWar in 760 PA and his projection for an estimated 672 PA is 4.7

  39. You have to consider what people thought of him last year. One really nice year isn't going to change peoples minds from "he sucks" to a great player until he puts up another year similar or better than last year. They are clinging to their original anal-ysis for as long as possible.

  40. I can easily agree with stockpiling SS and CF because those guys will end up playing 3rd,2nd ,LF or RF also but catchers have to be a catcher or 1st baseman. Right now I'm good at catcher if they spend on a defensive veteran to help the young pitchers. Those guys are fairly cheap. The Sox won't get Bobby Miller, pride of Elk Grove Village and the 29th pick in the 2020 draft for the Dodgers because he's too good. Dustin May is likely out for the whole season. It might not be a stretch to think the Dodgers would trade him while injured but would the Sox do that knowing he won't likely pitch in 2024 and his extensive injury history. Might be more likely if they get Ohtani and Ohtani can pitch in 2025 but that's a question mark if he doesnt want to pitch any more after a 2nd TJS. Kershaw won't pitch until the summer and who knows how he will be and even if he continues to do Kershaw things after he comes back there's his whole postseason history to think about. Walker Buehler might be on an innings limit after his injury, Seems like the Sox would want too much pitching from the Dodgers. If Cease gets trading I'm doubting it happens soon unless the rumored Dodger talks heat up in a hurry. There's still some quality FA pitchers on the market but not enough and Getz can't settle on stuff some of these fans from other teams are suggesting. Cease should be a hot commodity.

  41. Would never vote for a guy after suspended post Mitchell Report. Beltran, Beltre, Buehrle, Helton, Hunter, Jones, Mauer, Rollins, Utley, Wagner Was never really a Jones or Wagner supporter, but they’re close enough that I would probably check them if I actually had a vote.

  42. Absolutely stunned by the size of this contract. Not sure who Getz can sign in this market. That is why JR is pushing trades.

  43. Braves got a good deal. 3/$26 with the big money deferred a year v. 3/$24 for Graveman 2 years ago. Reynaldo is younger and better; accounting for inflation, probably a tad cheaper too. I wonder if the Braves don't view the Sox relieves as under-coached.

  44. I'm hoping for 2-3 players in return that stick. That's why I'd take quantity over quality. I've seen those pretty 60-70 grade prospects and I'm perfectly content with 4 prospects that are 45-55 than a 60 and a 50. If you look at the top vote getters for ROY this year, of the 16 finalists about a 3rd weren't even MLB top 100.

  47. It's a good trade. Yes, Soroka is coming off a bunch of serious injuries but his stuff has remained relatively the same particularly his velocity. He probably won't ever be a frontline starter but even a 4th or 5th starter is more valuable than Bummer. Lopez is nothing special but can be used as a utility guy which is the path you should pursue going to year with these guys rather than signing guys like Garcia to extension. Shewmake is AAA fodder and since he is out of options will probably be DFA at some point. Shuster had a good minor career. He doesn't have frontline stuff but once again there is value in having either be a longman or a 5th starter. There is also the potential should he be moved the bullpen he finds a cpl of miles on his fastball Getting potentially two backend starters with control and an utility player for a reliever is a homerun.
