As much as I’d absolutely love the Sox to end up with an NPB star at some point, the a white Sox specifically needed a left-handed outfielder who can actually play the field, and that’s what Benintendi is. Yoshida is a lefty and is by far the best hitter, but he’s a borderline DH. I think the Red Sox evaluated the opportunity to minimize that impact well in their weird, short LF. But the White Sox literally played two first basemen in the OF and their good CF is injury prone. They needed a dude who can cover some ground. Suzuki has the most upside of the group, but he comes with the most risk and is right-handed. The handedness is the least important piece, though. I also think he is the style of personality/has a track record of managing his own improvement, which is the only type of positional talent that ever finds a way to succeed in the Sox organization. But he still probably wouldn’t become as good with this org as he would with an average one, so it’s hard to make the case the Sox won’t get more out of benintendi. As an NPB stan, it pains me. But I think the Sox got the right guy for their needs, even though both the others may play better where they are.5 points

The guy has mostly sucked the last 4 or 5 years. He got minor leaguers out in spring training . Who cares?3 points

Hawk was never an objective broadcaster. He was the ultimate homer. I loved that about him. Even he is now crappin on the Sox? Something has gone sour in this organization.3 points

Just don't understand the JB hate from some/many here. The guy is a very good broadcaster.3 points

All griping aside, this night’s like Christmas Eve, where the magic never ends. 162 games to go and anything is possible!2 points

I really have no idea what the hell is going to happen this season. End of April, regardless of record, if we've hit more than 30 dongs, I'll be very optimistic about winning the division. If not, especially if <20, I won't be spending much time on this team. I know it sounds ridiculous to put so much emphasis on the long ball but this team was built to slug. The slap-happy 1920's style of baseball isn't going to win games in 2023, just as it didn't in 2022.2 points

We’ll see, I know this is hopefully good news for Liam’s healthy and recovery, but seeing how they mishandled the roster/injured list the past few years I have my doubts.2 points

Ah another season of playing short handed and misusing the injured list, White Sox baseball baby!2 points

I'm kind of surprised by the Liam news, but it's incredibly encouraging at this stage that they're not placing him there. They could always retroactively place him on it if anything changes, but I'm just glad that he's feeling well at this point.2 points

When I was a kid in the 90s without cable, flipping on WGN and seeing that intro always made me psyched.2 points

I get so giddy thinking about what this organization could be with fresh eyes, fresh ideas, and a hunger for winning. I am speaking directly about an entirely new ownership and front office. I have hope and optimism for this season, but man, long-term, imagine what this team could be with an entirely new regime.2 points

He should have been allowed to die in the booth. He was the man. A true legend who I miss calling Sox games. A true fan of the team and one of the last announcers who felt like they were literally part of your family given how long you listened to them call games over the years.2 points

I know Hawk wanted to die in the booth and all that, but that's not exactly conducive to great broadcasting.2 points

Long-time #WhiteSox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson was interviewed on Foul Territory Tuesday by Scott Braun and AJ Pierzynski, and he had some strong words about his former team. When discussing his departure from the White Sox after the 2018 season, Harrelson said he “didn’t retire, he got retired” by the team. Today, on AJ Pierzynski’s podcast, legendary White Sox Broadcaster Hawk Harrelson has revealed that he agrees with the fans. When asked about if Jerry should sell the club, Hawk responded “up until a couple of years now, I would have said no, now I would say yes.”1 point

Grifol has me excited. I really think the White Sox got their version of Mikel Arteta. Someone who is a perfectionist and will demand excellence and really create his own team culture. For anyone who is a soccer fan, they are probably familiar with Arteta's demanding style. From what I gather, Grifol has this as well. Like Arteta, Grifol isn't afraid to get rid of once thought of untouchable players if they aren't getting with the program. We'll see but I think this hire is reason enough to be excited for this season.1 point

I’ll say: 1. TA 2. Robert CF 3. Jimenez DH 4. Vaughn 1B 5. Grandal C 6. Moncada 3B 7. Benintendi LF 8. Andrus 2B 9. Gonzalez I bet Colas sits tomorrow and Benintendi should be down in the order1 point

I have zero expectations this year. Just going to enjoy baseball. If the Sox are competitive that's a bonus I cannot peg this team at all so no predictions from me1 point

If the lineup san Yaz stays mostly healthy and they win 78 games, the pitching will need to be an absolute dumpster fire.1 point

I loved how much hawk loved the sox, he was like me. That said, at the end the innings of silence when the team was going bad made the bad feel so much worse. That's where hawk lost me.1 point

I hope it's just a personality clash and Brooks doesn't have a big head . It's been many years, but I've had 2 interactions with him. He didn't owe me the time of day, but he was terrific. Very friendly and funny and spoke to me like I was someone very important.1 point

Zero hate. He was great. Genuinely great, passionate, and memorable. But by the end he was bad. I say it with no ill will. I still love the Hawk of old, but it was time for him to go well before he finally did. It's just reality.1 point

Folks ... Oscar Colas is the Sox's Tatis. How long before Colas-mania takes the SouthSide by storm? This guy is just what the Sox need. Plant him in RF and give him his 580 at bats. What do the Sox have to lose?? Play the guy and let's see if Oscar and Pedro are the new look White Sox. This guy has the potential of bringing back the Sox diehards. Let.Him.Mash. Sincerely, A rabid fan who wants postseason baseball in Chicago. p.s. If for some reason Oscar fails don't blame experience. The guy is 24 for gosh sakes. Let him hit, baby.1 point
