  1. With all these coaching changes, poor Luis Robert is going to have a hard time figuring out who is who.

  2. WHY DO THE SOX KEEP HIRING FROM TERRIBLE ORGANIZA- Oh wait, it’s the Rays? Great hire!

  3. At this point I'm expecting them to let everyone line up, keep the doors locked, then announce after a couple hours that the fest is canceled. All while Jerry watches the chaos from behind the tinted windows of a running limousine across the parking lot. Possibly masturbating

  4. Tough crowd. I was noting in a horrid economy baseball apparently is exempt making $$$ no matter the fact u can't leave a grocery store without 60 bucks stripped from the wallet. Sports are immune.

  7. One time I got free tickets to this STH event where the sox hall of famers had a luncheon with pretty much every living one but Frank. This was just after Baines got elected. I was kinda floored to be sitting at the table with fans who like, did all the "sox cruises" or "sox vacation in mexico" where these people just like loved the sox and loved every player on it regardless and just wanted to go to games and root for them. JR was there. There were like 100 people total. Anyway my first thought after that experience is this is who Jerry thinks the fanbase is. These very nice, incredibly forgiving group of people that just wanna see nice young men play baseball. And so maybe that is who JR is trying to communicate to and it seems so insane to us.

  10. There isn't REALLY a path to contention in 2024, but I'm guessing that the FO has decided the fanbase isn't ready to hear them utter "rebuild." Because they think we're idiots, it seems like (based on Getz' comments about no one being untouchable + the rumors of them shopping guys like Cease), that they're going to just do it anyway and pretend they aren't -- perhaps believing that it will give them the cover to half-ass it instead of trying again to do it properly. This could be either because Jerry can't handle the wait, or because they've correctly assessed that they aren't in a good position to pivot (with so many of their expensive players currently with no trade value), or both. I predict we're going to see an offseason very similar to what you'd see from the Tigers, in which a lot of money will be spent on short-term veterans that fill holes and be dealt if useful, but won't stop any of the prospects from earning PT along the way. The hope will be that the "core" bounces back to the extent that a run at the division is possible with the stopgaps in place, but they'll settle for merely having a lot of guys to move for more low-upside, close-to-the-majors prospects that can provide similar value for cheap going forward. Was trying to keep the cynicism out but it crept back there toward the end, sorry.

  13. In the past I planned multiple summer vacations around attending games in Chicago. Now, I'll be at a game or two if they happen to be in town when I am. I'll also check the secondary market for cheap seats over buying direct. I threw away a few worn out hats and shirts. I won't be replacing them anytime soon.

  15. Ha ha. I guess we're keeping Cease. I despise the concept of Jonathan India (45 hit/50 power/35 field/70 flow) as even part of a trade. Verdugo would replace Clevinger/D-Bo as the embarrassing guy to root for. (Google it.) Donovan probably is a 4th of/platoon bat. I mean, he's not horrible, but c'mon. I do love his similarity through age 26 to Hoot Evans.

  16. November 15, 1972 - After accomplishing one of the greatest individual seasons in franchise history and barely missing the Triple Crown, Sox first baseman Dick Allen was named the M.V.P. of the American League by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He led the league with 37 home runs, 113 RBI’s, a .603 slugging percentage and 99 walks. He led the Sox with a .308 batting average, drove in 19 game winning runs, stole 19 bases, scored 90 runs and was only .0005 points shy of leading all A.L. first basemen in fielding. He was the leading vote getter for the All-Star team regardless of league. Allen garnered 21 of 24 first place votes for 321 points. Joe Rudi was second with 164 points.

  18. Tom's father, Joe, founded Ameritrade and is the source of the Ricketts family wealth and is also a pretty massive piece of s%*#. "Destroying" Lakeview is dramatic but it's concerning how much property they have bought up, how they're developing it and frankly that a single family basically owns the entire commercial corridor along Clark. It's basically become a theme park for well-paid young people and businesspeople entertaining their clients. Very little character, lots of drunks, more crime, fewer and fewer families. However, if you like Starbucks there are 6 within walking distance (only 3 Chipotles). The new residential construction facilitates this change because it's more profitable to divide your building into studios and 1-beds than it is to have 3 and 4 bed units. The neighborhood is doomed. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/ct-cubs-wrigleyville-redevelopment-met-20161023-story.html This article is a pretty good summary. The park itself is more valuable to the owners than the actual team is.

  20. The problem the White Sox had with these coaches is mo one with a functioning brain could possibly think Pedro has long term security here, and once he goes, they are more than likely looking for another job. So coaches in demand go elsewhere. The Sox get the scraps. If they would hire a manager with a good rep and someone who would be around for years, their coaching staff would probably be better.

  23. I went to three games this past season, bought two hats, bought an unquantifiable number of beers. I regret not going to more games. The team sux, the owner is an idiot, but it's still a fun day out and very affordable compared to the Cubs or Bulls or Bears. That's one reason I hate the Cubs, the prices are extortionate because they play in a world famous historic landmark, have a national fanbase and are surrounded by yup neighborhoods. it's an elitist team and Ricketts seems more cartoonishly evil than Reinsdorf, Senior is a massive racist and you can watch in real time how that family is destroying Lakeview.

  24. More Benetti: “[The Tigers] want to have the best telecast in Major League Baseball. And they want to do it by, number one, making sure that fans who don’t understand analytics have the opportunity to, if they want to. But if they don’t, they get everything they want to out of the baseball show, as well. Stories about players, fun at the ballpark, strategy, whatever it might be. They want the ballpark to come alive, and they also want new age fans to have the ability to have the touchstone of analytics, too. “It’s very clear with who they have installed in the front office with Scott Harris and Jeff Greenberg, and then A.J. Hinch is the manager — a guy who played baseball but also was in a front office and understands analytics very deeply, and mixed and matched lineups as well as anybody in Major League Baseball last year. “But they also want to have fun. They also want to enjoy the ballpark. They also want people to come every day and have a smile on their face. I do like to have fun. I do like to have a good time doing baseball, and sometimes you’re gonna miss and sometimes you’re gonna hit, but the stuff that happens in the ballpark is the most glorious part of doing baseball. And they want that. They didn’t say we’ll tolerate that. They said we want it.”

  31. The issue isn’t with “spa days” for players. You’re making incredible amount of investments into assets (well at least some MLB teams are) and you need to take care and maintain those assets so they perform at the highest level. The issue is players taking “advantage” of those spa days. We have enough data to tell us Eloy, Moncada, and Robert to a degree seem unwilling to take the field unless they are at 100%, which isn’t very likely come July, August. And with the inmates seeming running the asylum on 35th and Shields, it’s going to lead to a lot of missed games from players and a bad environment. There is also enough evidence from former players over the last 2-3 seasons that the clubhouse hasn’t been all that interested in winning. Burger said it after his first game with the Marlins. Pedro isn’t the guy, and this roster ain’t it either. As always, nothing changes until it changes at the top.

  33. I'm a little torn here. For the most part I acknowledge losing him is bad. He was recognized nationally as an up-and-coming broadcasting star. His leaving -- especially at the low point that is offseason 2023-2024, and to a division rival -- sends a terrible message. It is yet another manifestation of FO ineptitude and organizational rot. I also appreciate that he had all the right enemies; I enjoyed watching him piss off a certain type of fan. His replacement will probably be worse (please no whining Len Kasper voice ffs). *BUT* I just never really liked him, as much as I genuinely tried. I found him annoying and corny. So I personally won't miss him that much on the broadcasts, even though I take his departure as bad news.

  37. I'm a sucker and easy money for Jerry. I pout and moan about this franchise, and then I'm over on '47's website looking for new hats to wear to the one series the Sox come to Boston every year. It's an abusive relationship and I can't quit it.

  38. Our family and some friends usually go to one game and sit in the club level. It's pricy, but it's only one game. We'll probably go to one game again this season, but I really don't see going to more, even if it's just my wife and me or my son and me. My son and I went to a Brewers game last year, and it was a blast. We're thinking of maybe hitting a Cardinals game this year. I'd rather spend the money going to other ballparks for the experience than going to see the Sox, especially if they're going to have a subpar product on the field.

  46. My pick is a definite longshot that I mentioned in the other thread. Brian Barnhart who calls Illini football and basketball. My favorite PBP guy in all of sports. Used to do Angels games years. Has turned down other MLB work to remain in Champaign. He is a Sox fan though so maybe he'd consider, not that he'd ever be asked because he's not in the Jerry-sphere to begin with.
