Guys, if Gordon Beckham and his then .210/.600 average/OPS were able to hang around the majors from 2014-2019, Yoan Moncada will have absolutely no fucking problem hanging around the major league for a decade on defense alone. What Yoan Moncada actually is is the most overly criticized player in recent White Sox history, especially on this forum. He still sports a 3.3 WAR per 162. Is he overpaid? Hell yes. He is not worth $25 million. Is he going to have a problem getting $10 million a year until he's 35? Absolutely not.

They sweep the yanks....and they might have started the long turnaround. Hopefully they can take this 4 game win streak and turn it into something special.

Liam's first save of the the season, Seby multi HR game, no hit start from Gio, and the longest win streak of the year. Not too bad for a day's work. Also gained a game on two (potentially all three, pending the 9th inning) teams in the division.

Yoan has always struck me as a motivation guy, really depends on how much he cares. All the talent in the world doesn't matter if you don't care to show up. World Baseball Classic, he's playing for his county, around his peers, and tearing the cover off of the ball. Motivated. Gets to Chicago, we get a little carry-over good feelings from the WBC and starts hot. And then it settles in that he's playing for a dead-end team with nothing to play for. Unmotivated, no hustle. He seems like the quintessential change-of-scenery type of guy. Get him on a team that is competing day in and day out with other guys that want to be there, and I bet he's a stud. Play out his days on lame duck White Sox team and what you see is what you get.

Changing the culture of this team begins with getting rid of players like Moncada. You need a team of players who winning is the most important thing. He got his money and he stopped really caring.

Burger: Not great on road Sheets: Lefty Yankees Stadium: Lefty heaven I fail to see why this is difficult. Burger will likely play this series.

Sheets should be playing given its Yankee stadium.

Gavin is the ONLY player on the current roster with an OPS over 800, on the road. I understand that Burger is the flashy choice, but he has been downright terrible on the road this year, sporting a gruesome 462. This team needs all the hope it can get, while on the road, and that means Sheets in the lineup. Burger is at 148/203/259 on the road, with 24 K's in 54 ABs.

Line up out, no Burger. When you have no OBP, it is nice to have a guy who might run into one. I have been one of the biggest Moncada defenders on this board, but right now he’s giving you little/nothing offensively. Sox can’t afford to punt c, 3b, ss, 2b, and power in left. How are they supposed to score?

Moncada doesn't have a motivation problem. He has a back problem. That's why he's missed so much time, that's why he's lost power, that's why he grimaces when swinging, that's why his defense hasn't suffered. Unfortunately, a back problem is way worse than a motivation problem, it's why he'll likely never reach his potential, and it's also why he's stuck here. No one is taking a guy making $20+ million/year with a bad back.

Love the glove but when you're getting paid what he is to play the position that he plays, you gotta hit more.

They also don’t see enough pitches. In 2023, 3.91 is league average for pitches seen per plate appearance (P/PA). The Sox see 3.83 which is 29th in the league. The Cubs are first with 4.12. Let’s look at their walk rate. A league average walk rate is 8.7%. The Sox rank dead last with a 6.6% walk rate. The Padres are first with 11.1%. On the bright side, they are striking out at a league average clip. The offense is beyond broke. The best way to fix it is getting rid of guys who contribute the most to these issues. Blow this thing up, it’s the only way forward.

Has there ever been a more disappointing player in a White Sox uniform than Yoan Moncada? I bought into the hype in 2019 and thought he was going to be a White Sox legend. I doubt hes still playing baseball in 3 years.

Giolito vs. Schmidt. The schedule gets much tougher and the Sox will need to show they can continue winning series outside the AL Central. May catch a break and miss Judge for the series, I'm sure we'll hear more on his status throughout the day. Looks like we are also going to miss Cole as well.

Burger has a road OPS of .463. Not sure he's the one to be contributing to your aforementioned road woes on the positive side of things. That said if they wanted to find a spot for both Sheets and Burger that'd be fine. Playing Sheets as your lefty power bat in Yankee stadium does make a lot of sense though.

So that's it, just a blanket statement ? Burger is arguably your best hitter. If he had 95 more AB, the same as Robert he might be their best hitter so because it's Yankee Stadium you can't get Burger and Sheets in the lineup together ? How many other guys in baseball do you think that have hitting stats similar to Burger haven't been in the starting lineup 4 of the last 6 games and guys as pitiful as Moncada getting so much time ahead of him . How many of these 18 road games is Burger going to sit when the Sox desperately need wins ? You are just going to have to play Burger and hope his road stats improve. If you want a 6-12 road trip and to essentially be in sell mode at the deadline keep him out of the lineup as much as you want , home and on the road. That's what Grifol has been doing anyway , starting him 1/3 of the time the last 6 games. Luckily his 1 AB of the game Grand Slam Sunday gave the Sox a win and his HBP the day before pushed the runner to 3rd base to allow the winning run to score on a wild pitch. Burger .9 fWAR , SHeets .1, Mocada .4, Vaughn .2 , Eloy .2 . Burger fWAR is the same as those other 4 players COMBINED !

So those same professionals that traded for him, failed to develop him, failed to ID his supposed "mental weakness" and then handed him a big contract are now covering their ass. That's what you're hearing dude.

Burger has the 2nd most position player fWAR on the Sox. Robert has 1.8 and Burger has 1.2 in 95 less AB. At some point the manager has to realize you don't platoon that guy . How many RHH with a season total of 12 HR and 147 OPS+ are platooned with guys who have far less WAR, and thus less of pretty much less of everything including speed ? I understand the home/ road splits are ugly but when you have been bad all season but playing the guys who got you to this point over the guy hitting better than just about everyone in the lineup isn't that difficult. The team has played 61 games. Burger has played in 43 of the 61 . Of the 43 games Burger has had 2 or less Plate Appearances 9 times thus lessening his chance to make major contributions to winning games with his hitting. That leaves only 34 of 61 games when he had 3 of more PA. At some point what else can the guy do to get more playing time at home and on the road ? Things aren't going to change for the better for the Sox until you give Burger more opportunities. Moncada has looked pitiful hitting and frankly in the field too the last couple of weeks. The Sox are very bad on the road and very bad against anyone but the AL Central. This road trip can essentially bury the Sox for the season . Even going .500 (9-9) they are still 9 games under .500 around July 4th with the trade deadline looming. Basically Burger is a better hitter than Moncada, Vaughn and Sheets .Why are they so accommodating to Moncada and Eloy? Instead of fooling around with Burger at 2nd base why not Moncada there ? He hits like a 2nd baseman now. Why not give Sheets a little more time at 1st base ? There's no reason at all for Burger to have started only 2 of the last 6 games including today. The lefties getting the playing time got it at home too recently. If Burger is the so called weak side of the platoon I will continue to be stumped as to why. Permanent DH . Do whatever with Sheets , Moncada , Vaughn and Eloy. Burgers hitting better than all of them easily.

Cinci sucks and is rushing their prospects in an attempt to win 86 games. If that seems familiar it's because you watched the White Sox over the last 15 years.

How can Sox continue to sit their best power bat, not even close. Play Burger and sit Moncada. It is sooo simple. I believe with a bigger sample Burger’s road batting will quickly improve.

He needs to be traded and he can be traded! It doesn't matter what they get back. He is a waste of a roster spot for the absurd amount of wasted money they pay him. The Sox should be willing to eat some of the remaining money and trade him for couple of prospects. Every single year there are always several hungry teams that will be desperate, in this case for a third baseman at the trade deadline wanting to go for it all. He is taking away a spot from Burger. Plus once you have Moncada gone along with a few others, you will see a huge clubhouse attitude, morale and excitement improvement on this team. He is making 17 million this year. Next year since you don't see to want to trade him, you will pay him 24 million in 2024. That would be dumb. If you don't trade him in 2024 then you will have to pay him 25 million in 2025 or use your Sox club option and buy him out for 5 million. It would be stupid to go another year at 24 million and then have to buy him out prior to 2025.

Yep. I’m fine with the lineup as is but I want Burger subbed for Sheets if it’s a lefty at the crucial end of the game. Can you now move Eloy into the field without penalty?

Nunez Jr. Went 1-3 with a HR, 2 BB, 1 SB and 1 RBI. I responded in yesterday's thread but figured I'd post this here as well. I wrote this about Nunez Jr. prior to the season... Nunez Jr. is definitely someone you are not going to see on other lists. He just signed with the Sox as a 16 year old out of the Dominican Republic. Marco Paddy said they expect Nunez Jr. to get up to about 6'4" which gives him a ton of projectable power. He has a smooth lefty swing and a great bat flip game already, the swag here is enough to jump him over some of the more questionable prospects in the organization. Once the DSL starts up this summer, Nunez Jr. is definitely someone to keep an eye on and see if he can develop into a prospect worthy of this ranking. _____ To follow that, I do really like his swing. Its smooth, got power already on a slightly thin frame which lends itself to much larger power projections than someone smaller. He seems to have nice control of his bat through the zone and has what appears to be a good loft on his swing already. It's obviously a long ways to go for him but as a prospect I like him a lot and his potential to become ranked in the 200-300 on prospect ranks one day and even higher. Me personally I'm close to putting him up with the top group of international signings from January (obvious behind Salas)

At this point, give me the offense. Let's see what we have in Burger, we know what we have in Moncada. Turn him into a super sub, 3B, 2B and corner OF. f*** it. I'm over the "but he's such a great defender" (i was in this camp as well until now)..

The odd man out is Sheets, I don't get it. Burger is the DH until proven otherwise. Sheets can take a seat. Sucks to have to play Eloy in the OF but is what it is. Moncada is our only above average defender in the IF. Until that changes he needs to be the everyday 3B. I get that nobody figured he'd only be a 2 WAR player, but is what it is. These glorified DH types like Vaughn and Sheets have no value defensively and they can sit more if they aren't hitting bombs on the regular.

You can’t trade him. People need to stop suggesting to trade Moncada. He’s not tradable.

I think his right foot hit the s%*# out of that little concrete rise. I doubt he plays this series. Even if it's badly bruised if he can't put much weight on it he's going to have a hard time batting.

I have heard (or read?) that those sprint speed things on Statcast don't always tell the whole story. For example, when Tim is running full speed there is no way he has below average speed. In terms of Moncada, he usually starts hitting right about the time these posts pop up on Soxtalk. So here's hoping! At the very least it would be nice if he at least added some patience to the lineup.

Moncada plays every day and he's not hitting. Alberto who was just released had more home runs and RBIs than Moncada. Burger is hitting and doesn't play every day. Something has to change here.

It's amazing with the number of injuries they have had they are still...what? 10 games over .500 in the toughest division in baseball. Have to respect that organization. Winning seems to be the most important thing to them.
