Balta is dying on a hill that no one is joining him on, because like most hills, it's a stupid one to die on. Jerry didn't conduct a "sham" interview process because of race. He's a lazy, uninterested 87 year old that has zero interest in doing even an ounce of "extra" work needed to create a winning or competitive environment for his sports teams, but instead insulate himself with people that will work cheap and he enjoys smoking cigars with. He's done it many times before, and this is just the latest instance.9 points

I’m fairly comfortable with the approach I’ve taken. I haven’t watched 2 full innings of White Sox Baseball literally in literally 4 months. Just better uses of my time. Additionally, I haven’t been to the park since 2019. I won’t give them my money. However, the Sox are bigger than Jerry. He isn’t the White Sox. He owns them now, and someone else will once he dies. I root for the Sox, not the owner. So I won’t completely abandon them, but I won’t root for them.5 points

I’m dangerously close to sitting out White Sox baseball until Jerry dies. Starting to question what is the point in supporting a franchise that is held hostage by an incredibly stubborn, out-of-touch owner. Jerry has always wanted to win “his way”, but you’d think he’d finally wake the f*** up given a possible sale / exit might be coming. But nope, still going to promote an insular, unqualified employee to be his head baseball decision maker without even attempting a legit interview process, despite it potentially costing him hundreds of millions of dollars down the road. Unfortunately, our only hope at this moment is Father Time and that’s a terrible predicament to be in as a fan.5 points

Good bye fam. This is the end of my white Sox fandom until Jerry is dead and buried.4 points

Did you think KW was white this whole time? Also, it seems like Jerry did a lot for Kim Ng, a Chinese woman. What are you even talking about here?3 points

Right. It’s unrealistic to think I’m just going to have the same connection to Baltimore or Atlanta. Great to watch, but the personal history isn’t there, like it is with the Sox since birth. You can’t just recreate that. It’s why sports can be unfair to fans…these teams know they have their hooks in with the hardcores and we’re never truly leaving. BUT, I’m doing nothing right now to benefit the White Sox. They are getting nothing from me, and it sounds like many others3 points

I’m an oldster and IIRC they still give out the Triple Crown Award for the guy who has the highest batting average, most homers and most RBI’s. Those are the stats that I still look at but I also think OPS says a lot too. For the life of me I have no idea how WAR is figured and actually don’t care.3 points

Seeing this makes me think they should listen on a haul for Robert. We’re so far away from contending.3 points

If he doesn't get picked up, there's a decent chance the mutual option gets picked up I think, which would be a rarity. The Sox pick it up since they already have to pay him 4 million and he's much better than the extra 8 million option. Clevinger sees he couldn't be traded, and now couldn't be waived, may realize there's no market for him. We shall see though.3 points

Chris Getz' two most significant hires with the White Sox were Omar Vizquel to manage "Project Birmingham" and Wes Helms to manage Charlotte. Not only should he not be promoted, he should have been fired before Rick Hahn or Kenny Williams. Cased Closed3 points

I’ve broken through so many “this is the bottom” with this team I just can’t believe this is true.2 points

Thompson hasn't allowed a baserunner since he labored through the first, really impressive recovery by him. He finally gave up another hit in the 6th after 4 perfect innings, but left him stranded. Went from 28 pitches in the first with bases loaded to finishing 6IP on 84 pitches. 1ER, 2H, 3BB (all in the first), 2K. Barons up 7-1.2 points
-
Vera hits his pitch count with 2 outs in the third. He looked pretty confident, seemed like he tried to plead his case to finish the inning. 2.2IP, 0ER, 1H, 2K, 2BB. One walk was a pretty uncompetitive 4 pitches, the other was a good sequence where he just missed with a borderline pitch and didn't get the call.2 points

I don't expect the media to ask Getz something like "Why was the farm system so impotent under your watch?" or "What are your qualifications for this job"; and if he's bringing in Dayton Moore, "Dayton Moore had 3 winning seasons out of 16 with the Royals; is that something that the Sox really should emulate?" or "Do you stand with Dayton Moore on Luke Heimlich?" But could they at least ask him some positive questions such as: 1)What are your plans to improve the productivity of the farm system?; specifics please 2) The Sox are at or near the bottom in terms of investment in analytics; teams like the Cubs have an analytics department 3x the size of the Sox. What are your specific plans to vitalize our analytics department?2 points

the orioles are so fun to watch right now, I've never seen a Sox team play baseball like that2 points

Whatever they are, they round down to zero The player development system is a total disaster, and if they promote the head of it to GM, there’s no reason for that to change. The player acquisition strategy is so backwards it literally seems like it’s bad in purpose, and there would be a shred of hope if a totally new voice came in, because he/she could convince JR to change, but if they just promote someone who has already been cowed by JR, there’s no reason for that to change either. Doesn’t matter if there are a few positive parts on the team, there’s no way to finish it with the above conditions. Might as well be the A’s. EDIT: Sorry I failed the exercise.2 points

There's a lot to rip JR about... but this is unfair. How many teams have had a minority as the #1 baseball person for 20 years?2 points

It was Eric Dybas who attacked umpire Laz Diaz. This is what I wrote for my long history on the Sox relationship with the media: "Mentioning Dybas also brought up another point which left many, even non-conspiratorial individuals wondering what was going on. The following day after the incident both Dybas' girlfriend Kelly Sherwood and his roommate, said on various Chicago radio stations that they were shocked that Dybas was even at a Sox game. Both said he was a diehard dedicated Cub fan who had been drinking heavily at the afternoon Cub game before deciding to go to the Sox game that night. These facts on the individual never seemed to make it into print leaving the impression to many that Dybas was just another "white trash, stupid Sox fan."2 points

The same Sosa that Grifol didn't want called up in the first place; I would assume that, despite being one of our hotter hitters, Grifol doesn't think much of him. Yes, let's bring this clown back to manage another season.2 points

So many guys need to go on this team, let some other team put up with TA’s antics. Cease isn’t much better than Kopech and might be another head case. I can’t think of one reason why Grifol should not be fired, send him back to KC where he belongs.2 points

I hope he stays and the option is picked up. He has pitched well. The woman behingd the allegations is a piece of work herself, and he's been toeing the line this year. If he pitches well next year, we can trade him then.2 points

What happens next is really simple and very predictable. Fact: No one we like will take the job. The interview process will be JR handing them a press release and asking them to read it as if reporters are in the room. "I'm excited to be the White Sox GM and to bring a championship to the great fans of Chicago. I especially appreciate the challenge of doing so without signing anyone to a nine figure contact, keeping pitcher contracts to under five, I mean four years, and no farm system to build on. It would be overwhelming but knowing I have a Hall of Fame guy looking over my shoulder will make it easier!"2 points

I was in my car when it was 1-1. I listened as the Sox got boatraced late. The Orioles announcers were talking about how relentless an offensive attack they have. Then they mentioned 3 stud hitters in the minors who will be ready soon. The announcer said, 'It's good to be an Orioles fan right now.' Meanwhile on the south side ... lol. Pathetic non competitive team with nothing to look forward to. Congrats Jerry. Your team went from the top in 05 to this. Possibly the worst franchise and worse outlook in all of baseball.2 points

These comments just encapsulate what is wrong with Pedro as a manager. So many issues here. For one, haven’t we heard this all year? Again, whatever you are doing is not working. Ultimately, though, I detest the scapegoating. I have watched this team slog through a season and when I read comments like these for the hundredth time, throwing a 24-year old rookie under the bus in the process, I wouldn’t want to play for you either, Pedro.1 point

He's doing the same thing he's done his whole young career when he was in the minors. Struggled at first then adjusted at the level. Looks like he's doing it in the MLB now.1 point

If he were 3 years older and still this way, sure. But I can't see a team with this many problems, cutting a 24 year old who is in his first season.1 point
