They could have had almost anyone they wanted when JR picked LaRussa. Now they are back to what they always will be with JR here, the redheaded stepchild of Chicago. They are the Angels without Ohtani or Trout.

Why would a credible manager join the Sox? We went through this during the Renteria years when people were pining for Girardi or Francona or Bochy or Hinsch. Credible managers will not come here. Rick Renteria is the best Sox fans can hope for.

Craig Counsell signed what would be the 11th largest free agent contract the White Sox have ever given out. As a GM. We are not a serious franchise.

So, the Cubs have hired Counsell. Who have the Sox hired in the past? Bevington, Ventura, an old LaRussa, Grifol. Seems like to me that one team is actually trying to win. As opposed to the other.

Tim posted a nice tribute of his time here on his instragram. Luis Robert responded that he's his twin which Anderson responded that he loves him as a brother. Never got the impression at all that Luis, and TA alongside Hendriks and Giolito were ever the issues in the clubhouse but I know this board has made up their mind differently.

I don't know why, if the money is the same, TA would pick the White Sox for 2024. They told him what they think. They are going to suck, and best case scenario is he plays well enough to get traded midseason. Why would you want that?

His on the field performance seemed to fall apart at just about the same time as his off the field issues hit, and his on the field performance collapsed in such a specific way that you'd think he was just distracted. In 2022 as part of the opening 8 game losing streak, there was a multi-game stretch where he was fielding just about as well as I would. He wasn't hurt, he was still seemingly playing, but he basically forgot how to "Defense". While we never got the whole story, it sure seemed like "off the field stuff is leaking through onto the field" was the most rational explanation.

He seems overmatchrd because he is.

Not only has this team disappointed us for nearly two decades now, including two failed rebuilds, but they continue to lie about competing....How does a team just off 101 losses intend to compete while taking a step back? We don't have the roster, management, farm, or ownership to do it...I probably feel worse now than when the last rebuild began in 2016

Time for Getz to put on his big boy pants and go get Counsell. We know he loves former players.

He'd also just retweet stuff from ChiSoxFanMike with "interesting" and "concerning". Alas, this is still an improvement over the current ownership.

I think I would have picked this option up. It's very likely Tim will bounce back significantly next year (even if only to league average), simply because it's hard to replicate such an abysmal season for a player who still has so much of his peak athleticism remaining. Moreover, one more year of TA is the perfect bridge to Montgomery, without any reasonable short-term alternative elsewhere in the system. Now, if they want to "compete," the only options are to (1) rush Montgomery, or (2) sign a free agent, which will be less talented than TA and cost just as much (or more, in terms of years). Actually, now that I think about it, this gives the Sox a couple options they are quite comfortable with: ruin prospects by rushing them to the majors and/or light money on fire by spending it as inefficiently as possible on middling players in free agency. I guess if I'm steel-manning the move, it may simply be the case that the year was so unbelievably toxic and TA had such a miserable season that there was just no way to expect better results in 2024 without a change of scenery. I can believe this.

We don't discuss off the field with other guys except Liam. We don't discuss Tim feeling like the token black on the squad.

If they feel he's worth it, he's worth it. Period. Full stop. And it's not caring what the Cubs do, i.e. "We're Chicago's American League team" - Eddie Einhorn... that has helped put the Sox in their position of irrelevancy in the Chicago area. You are in a two team market, they are competing for the fan dollar, you better give a damn what they do.

Once again the Cubs make a bold strike to try to get better (granted it doesn't always work out...) and it usually has some logic behind it. What do the White Sox do? Whatever JR demands and what usually makes the least amount of sense to even a casual fan. Incompetent, dysfunctional and inept.

The clubhouse seems more like a Pedro excuse. The Sox have Eloy and Vaughn for multiple years, if they want them. No reason to jettison them for dimes on the dollar to make room for a player coming off of an ACL. I'd spend the $ on short-term pitching, so that the Sox don't get blasted ever night. Also trade for a young outfielder, given that the pipeline is really thin at that position. I keep reading that the Cardinals have "outfield depth"; I guess "Depth" is in the eye of the beholder as most seem to have not done well in the majors, but maybe pick one of those guys up cheap and hope for a rebound.

At this point, Slappy, Mike Caruso seems a better choice.

The path to the Sox is the same for any other player in 95% of circumstances. Offer the most money, get the player. There are very few circumstances where the most after tax money doesn't win out. Of course if all is the same or extremely close, a player may prefer destination A to destination B based on any number of things, but the "no FA wants to sign here" gets totally overplayed here. Most players will be happy to sign with the Sox if they are the high bidder. This post is NOT necessarily directed at you, Bob fwiw.

Very true. This is just opening old wounds from times they should have launched or gone with better managers when they were available. Counsell coming here makes no sense for Counsell (unless they are significantly overpaying).

It's not a good move if you don't replace him unless you admit to lying about "I feel this team can contend next year" and you're actually just cutting payroll. Because it's not like our minors were tearing it up. It actually, from all metrics, was certified trash. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if JR is pretty much fine slimming payroll to a minimum and just collecting off of revenue sharing and whatever people refuse to stay home in the stands since he certainly wouldn't have to pay for his lease. Wouldn't be shocked if he does it until he has his new stadium, has sold, or passed away.

I was better when Getz cleaned house (outted s%*# staff, cancerous players etc) but bringing Grifol back alone changes it to still the same.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. I understand that moves that have been made. I'm not all doom and gloom like some others here because I do believe there is untapped potential with certain players on this team. However there are many holes to fill....... Let's see what happens. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised or maybe we continue to status quo mediocrity. This team killed a lot of my energy and fandom as a white sox fan last year.

I feel a bit better about the team. I like the bold move to decline TA's option. Whether or not he comes back on a lesser deal, this will hopefully be a wake up call for him. He was a shell of himself last season, and his personal problems definitely bled into his professional life. I'm fine with Clevinger being gone. Declining Hendriks' option was the right thing to do, even though Liam is such a great guy. The next two months will really tell us the direction this team is taking. Moving on from Moncada might be the next big move. Signings and trades at and around the winter meetings could be quite interesting.

Rebuild is the wrong term. To rebuild, you are trying to reconstruct something that was already there. This is a start from scratch. It won't work because Jerry is the owner, among other reasons, but there is no core, very little to trade, and a FO that doesn't seem to take winning seriously. What's left? Pain.

For the 1st time in my life I just don't care anymore. This owner ruined baseball and basketball for me.

I like Sosa better at second base, if he works out that will be his position going forward anyway as Montgomery should be ready in 2025.

He was great for a while. Heart of the team. Face of the franchise. It was time. I wish TA nothing but the best.
