  1. I would tell him: if it's publicly funded, then it's owned by the city of Chicago, it's going to have a retractable roof, and the city will use it however it wants for the 284 days a year that the Sox aren't at home, and keep all revenues from that usage. If you want anything other than that, pay for it yourself.

  2. I purchased my Baseball America handbook and they sent me the PDF of the book. The top 30 list for the Sox is pretty interesting. They have them ranked as the 18th overall system in baseball. 16 of the top 30 were drafted, 6 signed internationally and 8 trades 1. Colson Montgomery SS 2. Noah Schultz LHP 3. Nick Nastrini RHP 4. 3. Our run differential was 319 runs worse than the Twins last year and have added a bunch of garbage. We aren’t close to being a RF away from winning the division.

  4. Maybe they should build a team before they build a stadium?

  6. JR will want those tenants to cover their windows during games so they don't get to watch for free! ?

  7. JR and the Mayor's joint statement “We met to discuss the historic partnership between the team and Chicago and the team’s ideas for remaining competitive in Chicago in perpetuity.” What's this remaining competitive crap?

  8. They were putting up tents for immigrants on a polluted lot. Why not a ballpark?

  9. I would think the less Brandon Johnson is involved the better.

  10. Hell no. Keep the tracks. Make them an outfield feature. Ball gets stuck under a rail tie? Ground rule double. Outfielder trips and falls on the rail? Should have known it was there. Deal with it. It's retro and cute, so all should be forgiven. Pump the river water in a jet into the crowd for home runs like the Kauffman fountains, but better.

  11. I’ll believe this when I see it. The city of Chicago shouldn’t give Jerry Reinsdorf another dime. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund stadiums for billionaire owners.

  12. I hope I used the TLR reaction appropriately here. I'm assuming that's the one we use as our dislike button.

  16. I think Getz is crazy if he’s willing to risk potential injury and/or another down first half of starts for Cease. Getz could get lucky but I don’t think it’s a smart play. The risk outweighs the reward in my opinion.

  17. I would love to know what has been offered for Cease from other clubs. For most of this thread, I have been under the assumption that there haven't been strong offers and Getz has been waiting it out to improve on that. I am now starting to feel like they have gotten good, strong offers and Getz is just not budging from some kind of ridiculous ask he is staying firm on.

  19. Go get a RF and win the division, already.

  20. Interesting. The timing seems right if there's any validity to this story. It would take all of the five years before the Rate lease is up. The Sox have an opportunity here to build one of the best stadiums in the league with the best background. Let's hope.

  21. What the Sox (or any team) should shoot for is to look something like Pirates Stadium, bringing fans closer to the field, especially the Upper Deck seats. You can’t get the same intimate feel as say upper deck seats at the OG Comiskey Park or Tigers Stadium (or Chicago Stadium), but you can do a lot better than even the reconfigured UD at Comiskey Park II. The new Rangers stadium looks terrible, at least on TV, but what they did get right was bringing seating closer to the field. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/mlbs-newest-ballpark-is-a-shift-away-from-retro-era-stadiums/

  22. He’s getting traded in the next 10 weeks. We’ll have a right fielder, and Fedde is starting March 28.

  23. Still not spending a dime on them until the Reisndorf’s are done with the Sox. Hope everyone enjoys it though!

  24. Waiting for Sports Guy to drop in and tell us why it’s not happening
    3 points
  25. Low A to AA will do that as a 20 year old catcher. If he was on their midseason, hard to see why he would drop. His defense improved a lot too I believe.

  26. I said today my assumption is one of the OFers, Westburg and something like Beavers and McDermott/Povich. That is in line with the reported ask from Getz.
    2 points
  27. My interpretation is that Westburg would be the second piece.

  28. Just sit tight. We are not accepting a light offer. It will cripple Getz in future negotiations if we do. I want Jones and Hampton. I dont care that NYY is not offering either. When they miss out on Snell and Montgomery, maybe they will get serious. If not, wait till July. IDGAF.

  29. I treat this just like I did when there were a handful of people who thought Giolito was going to return a bag of balls at the deadline. You will be proven wrong once Cease is inevitably traded, and you'll be happy about it.

  30. If you’re adding scumbags & assholes, you might as well as add Urias as well. Cease Bauer Urias Clevinger Fedde Not actually serious in wanting these guys, but could be a decent rotation.

  31. I don't care about the stadium issue one iota. What difference does it make where they are playing if they still stink?
    2 points
  32. Why, if they already have a gig, would anyone want to be the White Sox PBP person? They chased off Benetti. The team is awful. TV ratings suck. You will work with an analyst with a huge ego. What, unless you are a White Sox fanatic, is there for you? This will ultimately be a very disappointed hire.

  33. However the "reward" of trading him now to the best offer may not be that great, wherein you could then get greater reward if the risk doesn't manifest. Some people are saying Getz may have an astronomical asking price but I would imagine that's further from the truth. We've heard all about how teams don't want to part with x prospect or y prospect, even though those types should absolutely be in the deal and aren't being offered. Unless I'm missing something the reports are no one has met the price, not that the price is absurd.

  36. I think with his injury history it's a good gamble. For the last three years he has had 32 or 33 starts. It's always a gamble with pitchers but with him it's probably a good one.

  37. I’m probably delusional but I just have this feeling that one of Soroka, Fedde, or Kopech will have a strong first half of the season and be a desirable asset for the Sox at the trade deadline.

  38. "I had a pen in one hand, and my wallet in the other," JR said, chuckling. "We had such a beautiful park planned, and I was ready to sign multiple free agents in celebration." With a shake of his head, and a frown on his otherwise pleasant face, he continued, "If only the media had held off for 24 hours. Ah, what could have been."

  39. Chuck: Get rid of Moncada and TA to build character Also Chuck: Bring in Puig
    2 points
  40. If they actually care about character, this would be a hard no. We shall see. I know pumping up this shitty franchise is his job, but Chuck’s credibility is really stretching thin this winter.

  41. Imagine creating a 40 minute podcast trying to justify the baseball team you cover acquiring Yasiel Puig as your starting RF. I’d probably be looking to change careers.

  42. Add Bauer and Clevinger…we can win the division at least.
    2 points
  43. Not necessarily. Even the promise of a new stadium being built in the future greatly increases the value of a sports franchise. I could see JR doing this just to jack up the final sales price for his heirs. https://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2023/09/05/tennessee-titans-team-value-forbes-nfl-valuations.html#:~:text=The Tennessee Titans' franchise value,to be completed in 2027.

  44. 1) In 1967 former White Sox owner Art Allyn wanted to build a new stadium at this South Loop location. Allyn was going to pay for the stadium himself. The Mayor of Chicago wouldn't give him the permits to build it. 2) This same site was offered by the City of Chicago in the 1980s to JR. JR declined the offer because he wanted to build a new stadium in Addison where he owned the land. 3) I'm assuming that this is were the new stadium will be built. I hope the details get worked out sooner rather than later. I think its great news.
    2 points
  45. I just don’t think it’s possible. Any new stadium has to have a ballpark village like Atlanta, Cincy etc and I don’t believe the older Bridgeport residents will ever allow something like that
    2 points
  46. I had to do a double take. I expected it to be an old article from the first time the site was considered. I thought the land was spoken for, but a new modern stadium at Clark & Roosevelt would be game changer for the future health of the whole White Sox organization. Please Universe, please make it happen.
