For a team in their "window" it's criminal they can't add a $5-6 million dollar player. It's also criminal they don't have internal options that can play the role Adam Duvall would be asked to play, considering the now 34 year old Adam Duvall was fairly awful last year.6 points

All of the foodies followed this guy in the last few minutes since it was posted here. Safe to say they are all listed in the "recently browsing" at the bottom of this page. Just wanted to say hi to you douchebag(s). Also, I noticed a fake insider tell: When they also list the reasons why a team would be in on a player after dropping the scoop. It is like they can't help themselves from explaining what led them to making this guess. It is sad, this is a decent idea, and the connection makes sense, just tweet that. Why add the fake insider bs?5 points

I like Benintendi quite a lot and think he will "actually make a difference."4 points

Sox are totally the club that will spend $15 million on Benintendi, $7-8 million on Duvall and another few million on pitching depth instead of dropping $25 million on a player that actually makes a difference. It's infuriating.4 points

Martin suffered the dreaded "forearm soreness" in his last start, the Sox haven't said one word about his condition...until we see him on the mound pitching who knows what to expect from him.3 points
-
I’m on record for believing the Sox need this type of player, so I’m for it. Victor Reyes does not count. Billy Hamilton really shouldn’t either.3 points
-
Geez. Through this whole ugly tank/rebuild, the Sox were suppoed to be a 'winner." How soon we forget or let Jerry/Hahn off the hook. They've made some bad moves including having a blah pitching staff and weird lineup for The Cell.3 points

Figured this deserved its own thread for discussion sake.2 points

Burke is definitely an interesting arm, but I think there are very few orgs if any who would have already had him in AAA and someone they're counting on as ML depth so quickly after being drafted.2 points

It also isn't playing in one's imagination either. In 2022 we should view information as a good thing, and utilize it in our decision making process.2 points

Duvall might be a bit over the hill, but he does have a lot of skills that could help the club. I would definitely be good with this permitting that we continue to look for quality depth as well. I am telling ya, this team NEEDS more depth because we will see it very soon and all year.2 points

What does this even mean? Benintendi has only hit 20 homers once in his career and that was in 2017. You do realize that baseball is not played on paper or spreadsheets, right?2 points

If that’s the case, it will mark the third straight offseason in the “multi-championship window” Hahn did not address key lineup and depth holes. A properly managed $200M payroll (+/- $10M either direction) is enough for a smart FO enough to win championships. Even dumb teams like KC did it for just over half that threshold. World Series Champions (Cot’s Contracts OD Payroll in Millions): 2022 Houston ($175) 2021 Atlanta ($134) 2020 Los Angeles NL ($205) 2019 Washington ($197) 2018 Boston ($234) 2017 Houston ($124) 2016 Chicago NL ($172) 2015 Kansas City ($113) 2014 San Francisco ($149) 2013 Boston ($155) 2012 San Francisco ($131) 2011 Saint Louis ($109) 2010 San Francisco ($96) All this annual hand ringing in the media about competitive balance and most teams have “no chance” is complete and utter bullshit. Build smart organizations = Winning Build dumb organizations = Losing2 points

This would be an upgrade and create better overall depth.2 points

My point is he was signed for his LH bat (lacking in our lineup), fielding and overall solid play. Sure it would be great to see his power numbers elevate but Eloy/Robert/TA/Moncada/Yaz and to some extent AV is where the power from our lineup should be expected (hopefully return). Chicken Little makes it seem like we looked at Jose v Benintendi and said we like Andrew's power over Jose's. We can't complain about the roster construction situation and then still complain when they actually try to correct the issue.2 points

Getting a solid platoon LH 2B is a bigger priority than 4th OF, IMO.2 points

Ugh. Happy? I'm sad. ... I promise it's my last comment on the subject as I know my passion is making me repetitive. You have to understand how sad I am over this. Anyhow ... I'll stop now. Bye Jose.2 points

We have not forgotten this. We spend 80% of our board space bitching about it. But there’s 20% remaining for discussion of what actually can happen on the field/in the lineup at this point. No one is letting them off the hook for building a bad roster, but we are understandably happy that they decided to reallocate Abreu’s salary instead of using it as an opportunity to cut payroll, which was reported to be the plan by several legitimate sources.2 points

Five years of Benintendi at 15 per year is better than 3 years at 20 IMO for Jose. Like every aging player, Jose will finally hit a wall and then everyone says the dumb GM should have seen it coming. We have the pieces to swap Jose with 10-d and have a much better lineup because of it.2 points

After another glace at Adam Duvall, I am all aboard that train as our OF 4. Shed some money Jerry.2 points

If you can make it an even $ swap, taking McCann back without moving Yaz and then trading Seby for some rotation depth makes some sense. Got to have that trade lined up tho; Seby should have some value after his 2022, and I don't want to just DFA him. But yeah, I don't even know why I am going down this McCann rabbit hole.2 points

75% of this board was in shambles when he left. Dude's always been a meh player. Was solid for the Sox, but yeah....definitely would have been an awful deal to beat the one the Mets gave him.2 points

Exactly - Lonzo probably isn’t coming back and if he is it isn’t the Lonzo of old. How Lonzo made everything that much better I don’t know but I do know they need to blow this up and hope the lottery balls work there way and start over.2 points

Biggest thing is finding someone that if they have to start for two weeks in a row, it won’t kill the offense. I hate the offensive depth on this roster. Almost wish they didn’t sign Hamilton, as he shouldn’t be a legit option at this time.2 points

We have Benintendi because we didn’t sign Jose. To have both it means they would have dealt Hendriks or someone else and then needing to deal from the 1B/DH depth.2 points

You're right that the White Sox will struggle if their handful of guys don't stay perfectly healthy, but aside from Last Year's Guardians, everyone has severe injuries that they have to deal with. If the White Sox can't overcome injuries, this isn't a statement that the White Sox are unlucky! This is a statement that the White Sox's core is too darn weak, that the team isn't that well put together, and that people are convincing themselves that "no team could survive this many injuries" as a way to cover for that.2 points

The Braves in 2021 lost Ronald Acuna Jr for the season and the guy they were hoping could come back to be their top starter, Soroka, had his ankle blow out again and never threw a pitch. Other guys like Fried and Anderson also spent time on the IL, and Marcel Ozuna had some other non-injury personal issues. Here’s a straightforward article on how the Braves had to overcome those injuries for an improbable title: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2021-world-series-braves-overcome-big-injuries-slow-start-to-win-improbable-championship/amp/ If the White Sox lose Robert in July for the season, Benintendi gets suspended most of the year, and let’s say Lynn never throws a pitch next year, we will hear exactly the same thing about how no one could ever overcome the stuff the White Sox lost to still contend.2 points

The Sox team of the 90's..Thomas, Durham, Robin, Ordonez, Ozzie all went through many years of 150 games played...most great players I've ever followed have 5 of 6 years with great health. To call Robert, TA, Grandall and Moncada weak is just ridiculous. Sometimes bad luck happens. Phillies spent a jillion $'s on free agents then for a three year period 19-20-21 they were sub .500 team and last year went to the World Series. This Soxtalk negativity is exhausting.1 point
