  1. Is that 150 games between the 3 of them? Because I think that might be achievable.

  2. I think anyone posting here regularly has more than earned their stripes as a Sox fan. Most, if not all, of us were around for the rebuild. We've seen them be s%*#. The Sox aren't the A's, but the way they've abused this fanbase's trust is so egregious that if anyone wants to mentally check out until it's shown that Chris Getz can prove that he's more than a nepo hire, Pedro can manage a .500 ball club, TLR gets out of the way, and Jerry wants to actually invest — well, to find any fault in that would be asinine at best and disingenuous at worst.

  9. I'm probably somewhere in the middle here. I'm a died in the wool Sox fan. It's in my blood. I'll never be 6 years old again and fall asleep listening to some other team and have my pops sneak in against mom's wishes sometimes and update me on a score. But actively support? When they suck? Hell no. I'll just s%*# post on this forum, make an occasional analytic one, and skip any spring trips or trips down to T-Mobile when they are in town. Following a bad baseball team in my 20s and living and dying every game wasn't worth it. It's certainly not worth it in middle age.

  10. Does one earn extra points for remaining a fan of a team when they're winning? If one isn't getting enjoyment out of a sports team they support for entertainment should one be shamed for looking elsewhere?

  11. Probably but Dejong got released twice last season and finished the year 12-93 with no walks and 34 strikeouts.

  13. I moved back to Chicago in August of 2022 after three years in Nashville and had heard that the city was literally dying from the inside out. As a lifelong Chicagoan prior to this, it pained me to hear that not only were people leaving the city in droves for all sorts of reasons, but that Chicago was no longer a tentpole city that all Americans should visit. We took the kids down to the city for the summer and stayed in a hotel in the thick of things and I was shocked by the amount of tourists in the area hitting up all the major sites. There is no doubt in my mind that if this stadium gets built, it will be a hotspot for tourists who fly in for a long weekend and want to see all the things near the loop. The location is literally a short cab ride away from where people will be staying and/or visiting. I honestly think tourists and casual fans will eat up the experience if done right. I also went to San Diego last year for spring break and hit up their stadium and it has a very similar feel to this proposal. And I was literally blown away about how it’s just part of the city and how the little plaza outside of it was actually a cool way to partake in the game without even being in the park. It was just such a different experience from the Rate or any other stadium that’s in the field of parking lots and I say that as someone who grew tailgating in lots A, B, & C. To me, this is a no doubt game changer for the franchise and while there will be some Sox fans impacted by the location (including myself), I think the greater revenue profile that comes with it will be worth those sacrifices. I also hate Jerry Reinsdorf more than just about anyone, but if he can truly pull this off without any new state money (and carrying forward the existing hotel tax would be ok with me with certain caveats) then I don’t care that that he “wins” again per se. I just want championship level baseball on the south side before my elderly parents leave this world and my 10 & 7 year sons become actual adults who have experienced nothing but losing. This franchise hit a new low point in terms of hope, but this new stadium along with a new ownership group (which a new stadium could help accelerate) would almost certainly transform the franchise and hopefully allow us to finally become a best in class, major market franchise. That’s more important to me than Jerry’s kids inheriting a couple hundred million more upon his death.

  16. When people say worse than last year, I think there is no doubt we have less talent than the start of 2023, but I do think this team is better and significantly deeper than the end of 2023. The last two months were some of the worst baseball I have ever seen. There is a difference between being bad, which I think this team is, and being in a complete free fall, like we saw to end 2023.

  25. I don’t agree with Bernstein much but he’s spot on here. If it’s such a great deal, do it yourself. JR and Related have plenty of money. He can be the catalyst that created this great new ballpark, with a great new neighborhood with 22000 new jobs….what a way to go out, and his heirs still can cash in.

  27. You can follow it but not live and die with it. All about enjoying the game. I do think this team will be more enjoyable to watch. They won't win much but it will be a more sound team with less egregious mistakes. They just don't have the talent level.

  28. No, he doesn't. He has zero value. Currently he would occupy a 40 man roster spot for a team like Baltimore that likely doesn't have room for one, so taking him back is a net negative for them. He is likely to be on waivers in a few weeks to make room for others, teams can easily see how many NRIs the White Sox brought in to replace him.

  30. You've done a good job outlining the fWAR sources in other posts. The short of it is that around 4 of the projected fWAR is probably from guys that won't be here if they are healthy and producing mildly by the middle of July: Cease, Eloy and possibly if anybody will take him Moncada, and then that would be about -3 fWAR (rest of schedule) gone. Also about half the projected fWAR at SS is from Colson, and while ZIPS seems to think he can come up and be basically an average regular, I wouldn't mind just leaving him down in the minors all year, maybe get him a cup of coffee in September. If he's obviously too good for the minors sure bring him up, but otherwise just leave him down.

  33. The reason doesn't matter. With that stated, it's a new debt, and by account, a new expense. With that stated, it slots into the budget the same. In the end, I do wonder, if JR doesn't get his stadium, does it hasten the sale of the team? If so, while the stadium looks great and I love the land around it, I think I would vote for shooting it down. That's how bad he's been as an owner.

  34. So the Cubs are paying people to spy on the White Sox dealings? This is what you're suggesting? The baseball team every media outlet fawns over is paying for dirt on the other team that most of their sycophants couldn't give two shits about? Sure.

  35. I don't think it's an all or nothing proposition. In the past two years I've reached a point that I don't schedule my vacations around home stands, I don't make every attempt to watch every game. I've flipped from the Sox game to watch the Rangers or Astros. They are still my favorite team but they have lost my loyalty. If that means I shouldn't call myself a fan, I'm fine with that. If the standard is face paint and tattoos for every game, I'm certainly not. If applauding every mistake and poor decision is the barometer, then I'm out as well. My current number 1 team is a high school team.

  36. As a lifelong Sox fan who is now in my early 50's, I never in my life thought I would take this position. But if this jerk who has refused to spend the money to run a decent franchise thinks we're going to hand him another billion dollars...he can go f himself and take his damn team to Nashville or wherever he wants to go. I'm so done with Reinsdorf. This feels like we're all being setup for one final fu from Reinsdorf before he passes away.

  37. I'm excited about this season for a couple reasons. First, I love baseball. I can, and will, watch any game, and we're not far from having a baseball game on every night. Second, even though I know this team will not be good, it has a bunch of fresh faces, including some young ones that are hopeful to be part of the future. The last 1/3 of last season was so bad with the team looking like they had no interest in playing that I'm glad the roster was turned over. This team will be easier to cheer for. Granted, I will probably be sick of the losing soon enough, but dammit, I'm ready for baseball. And I'm a Sox fan no matter what.

  39. This team is better than last years. s%*# on them all you want for not having talent, but I bet they play better as a team than what we trotted out the last couple seasons. Strong defense and fundamental baseball can overcome a lot. I believe. P.S. I am not Chris Getz and I am not high.

  42. I definitely think this team will be better than most fans think and almost certainly better than last season. I wouldn't rule out a .500 record. A lot has to go right though, the "bounce back" guys have to actually bounce back. Eloy, Benintendi and Moncada have to play at a level that they're probably still capable of. The young guys from Vaughn and DeLoach to Eder and Nastrini have to show something. I think there's such a wide range of potential outcomes for this team that it makes me genuinely excited to watch them this year. well, until we have 30 losses by May. More than a winning record, I'd just hope that several of these guys can play themselves into semi-valuable assets and be consolidated into an actually useful player or two.
